[NCE]258. Trampling or crushing [the snake] means pushing it down until it travels on its belly and eats dirt, as has now been demonstrated in this verse and the last. Isaiah has something similar:
Jehovah has thrown down those who live up high. The exalted city he will humble; he will humble it all the way to the earth; he will level it all the way to the dust; his foot will tread on it. (Isaiah 26:5-6)
Another:
He will throw them down to the earth with his hand. With his feet the crown of haughtiness will be trampled. (Isaiah 28:2-3)

Potts(1905-1910) 258

258. That by "trampling on" or "bruising" is meant depression, so as to compel it to "go on the belly and eat the dust" is now evident from this and the preceding verses. So likewise in Isaiah:

Jehovah hath cast down them that dwell on high; the exalted city He will humble it; He will humble it even to the earth; He will prostrate it even to the dust; the foot shall tread it down (Isa. 26:4-6). Again:

He shall cast down to the earth with the hand; they shall be trampled on by feet-a crown of pride (Isa. 28:2-3).

Elliott(1983-1999) 258

258. 'Treading down' or bruising is used to mean forcing down so that it goes on its belly and eats dust. This is clear from this and from the previous verse. A similar usage also occurs in Isaiah, Jehovah has cast down the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He will lay it low, He will lay it low even to the ground, He will throw it down even into the dust. The foot will trample on it. Isa 16:5, 6.

And also,

With His hand He will cast them down to the earth, they will be trodden under foot, the haughty crown. Isa 28:2, 3.

tum, Dejiciet in terram manu, pedibus conculcabuntur, corona fastus, xxviii 2, 3.
