604# 至于新的意志，它位于旧意志之上，在属灵区域中；新的理智亦然。新的理智与新的意志相合，新的意志也与新的理智相合；二者在这一区域中联合，并共同向下察看旧的意志与理智，亦即属世层面的东西，又在那里安排一切，使之顺服。
谁不能看见，若人的心智只有一个区域，恶与善、伪与真都在那里相互冲撞、混杂在一起，便必发生争斗；正如把狼与羊、虎与牛犊、鹰与鸽一同关进一个笼中。那时在那里会发生什么呢？岂不只有残酷的屠杀，凶猛的野兽撕裂温驯的牲畜吗？
因此，主预备了这样的秩序：善连同属于善的真被聚集在较高区域，使它们能在那里安然存立，并抑制恶的攻击；又以锁链及其他方法制伏恶，最后驱散恶及其伪谬。
所以，前文所说的意思正在于此：主借天堂治理重生之人里面属于世界的一切。人的心智较高区域，即属灵区域，在最微小的形像中也是天堂；较低区域，即属世区域，在最微小的形像中也是世界。因此，古人称人为小宇宙；也可以称人为小天堂。
604# 至于新意愿：它在属灵区域的旧意愿之上，新理解力也是如此，理解力与意愿同在，意愿与理解力同在。在这个属灵区域，它们结合起来，并共同俯视旧的或属世的意愿和理解力，从而安排其中的一切，以便它们服从更高的东西。谁都可以看出，如果人类心智里面只有一个区域，如果邪恶和良善、虚假和真理在那里被聚集在一起并混合，那么一场冲突必然随之而来。这就像豺狼和羔羊、老虎和牛犊、老鹰和鸽子被一起关在一个围栏里。结果将是残酷的屠杀，凶猛而野蛮的动物将温驯而温和的动物撕成碎片。因此才规定，良善及其真理应在较高区域被收聚在一起，好叫它们可以安全居住并击退攻击，还可以通过约束和其它手段征服，然后驱散邪恶及其虚假。这与前面的章节所说的是一样的，即：在重生的人里面，主通过天堂统治世界的事物。人类心智的较高区域或属灵区域是一个微型天堂，而较低区域或属世区域是一个微型世界；因此，古人将人称为微宇宙或小世界，人也可以被称为微天堂或小天堂。
604. As for the new will, it is above the old will, on the spiritual level. So is the new intellect. The intellect is with the will and the will is with the intellect. They come together on that level, and together they examine the old, earthly self and arrange all the things in it so that they obey what is higher.
Surely everyone can see what would happen if there were only one level to the human mind - evil traits and good traits would be brought together and mixed up with each other there, as well as false impressions and true impressions, and conflict would erupt. It would be like putting wolves and sheep, or tigers and calves, or hawks and doves together in the same cage. The inevitable outcome would be a cruel slaughter, in which the savage animals tore the gentle ones to pieces.
Therefore it has been provided that good things along with their truths are gathered on a higher level so that they can remain safe and ward off an attack, and can use chains and other means to bring evils under control and finally disperse them along with their falsities.
This is the point made in an earlier section, that the Lord through heaven rules the things of this world that are present in a regenerated person. The higher or spiritual level of the human mind is in fact a heaven in miniature form, and the lower or earthly level is the world in miniature form. This is why the ancients referred to the human being as a microcosm. We could also be called a microheaven.
604. As for the new will, this stands above the old one in the spiritual region; and likewise the new understanding, which is with the will, and the will is with it, They are linked in that region and jointly look into the old or natural one, so arranging everything there as to be obedient. Can anyone fail to see that if the human mind had only one region, and what is evil and what is good, together with falsities and truths, were put together and mixed up there, there would be a conflict, as if wolves and sheep were put together into one cage, or tigers and calves, or hawks and doves? The result would inevitably be savage butchery, and the tame animals would be torn apart by the wild beasts. For this reason provision has been made that what is good together with the relevant truths should be gathered into the upper region, where they can be kept safe, repelling the attacks of and subduing by chains and other means evils and the relevant falsities, finally dispersing them. This is what was meant in the previous section by saying that the Lord by means of heaven controls what concerns the world in the case of a regenerate person. The higher or spiritual region of the human mind is a small-scale heaven, the lower or natural region a small-scale world. That is why the ancients called man a microcosm; and he can also be called a microuranos 1 .

604. The new will and the new understanding are above the old in the spiritual region of the mind. There they unite, and together they look into the old or natural will and understanding, and dispose all things therein to obedience. Any one can see that if there were only one region in the human mind, and if evils and goods, falsities and truths were brought together and mingled there, a conflict must ensue. It would be as if wolves and sheep, tigers and calves, hawks and doves were confined in one enclosure. The result would be a cruel slaughter, the fierce and savage animals tearing in pieces the meek and gentle. On this account it is provided that goods with their truths should be brought together into the higher region that they may dwell in safety and repel attack, and also by restraints and other means subdue and finally disperse evils with their falsities. This is the meaning of what was said in a former article, that the Lord through heaven rules the things of the world in the regenerate man. The higher or spiritual region of the human mind is also a heaven in miniature, and the lower or natural region is a world in miniature. This is the reason why man was called by the ancients a microcosm, or little world; he may also be called a micro-uranos, or little heaven.
604.
