1923、“她就从撒莱面前逃走了”表示这新孕育的理性的愤怒。这也是显而易见的,无需解释,因为从某人面前逃走无非是由于自己的愤怒而不能忍受他的存在。此处描述了这理性对直觉真理的愤怒,因为直觉真理或主,愿意羞辱或压制它。当心智的理性部分起来反对直觉部分时,一种内在争战与被压制的那一部分的愤怒就一起产生了。这就是在试探期间出现的情形;试探无非是内在的争战,或邪恶这一方和良善那一方之间针对主权和掌控的争吵和冲突。

1923. And she fled from her face. That this signifies the indignation of this rational that was first conceived, is also evident without explication, for to flee from anyone's face is nothing else than not to endure his presence, and pertains to indignation. Here is described the indignation of this rational against intellectual truth, because intellectual truth, or the Lord, willed to humble or subjugate it. When the rational rises up against the intellectual, an intestine combat arises, together with indignation on the part of that which is being subjugated, as is the case in temptations, which are nothing but intestine combats, being disputes and contentions about sovereign power and control, between evils on the one side and goods on the other.

1923. 'And she fled from her face' means the anger of this rational conceived first. This too is clear without explanation, for fleeing from someone's face is nothing else than finding their presence unbearable, on account of one's own anger. Here the anger borne by this rational towards intellectual truth is described because such truth, or the Lord, wished to humiliate or suppress it. When the rational part of the mind rises up against the intellectual part inward conflict results, together with anger on the part of that which is being suppressed. This is what happens in temptations which are nothing else than inward conflicts or clashes and struggles over who is to have power and control, evils being ranged in those conflicts on one side and goods on the other.

1923. `Et fugit a facie ejus': quod significet indignationem rationalis hujus primum concepti, constat etiam absque explicatione; nam fugere a facie non aliud est quam non sufferre praesentiam, quod est indignationis.
