1023. Verses 20, 21. And every island fled, and the mountains were not found. And a great hail, as it were, the weight of a talent, came down from heaven upon men; and men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail; for the plague thereof was exceedingly great.
"And every island fled," signifies that there was no longer any truth of faith; "and the mountains were not found," signifies that there was no longer any good of love.
"And a great hail, as it were, the weight of a talent, came down from heaven upon men," signifies falsities in the highest degree infernal, destroying all the understanding of truth with the men of the church; "and men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail," signifies falsification thence of the Word; "for the plague thereof was exceedingly great," signifies the total destruction of genuine truth.

20. "And every island fled," signifies that there was no longer any truth of faith (n. 1024); "and the mountains were not found," signifies that there was no longer any good of love (n. 1025).

"And a great hail, as of the weight of a talent, cometh down from heaven upon men," signifies falsities in the greatest degree infernal destroying all the understanding of truth with the men of the church (n. 1026); "and men blasphemed God because of the plague of hail," signifies the consequent falsification of the Word (n. 1027); "for the plague thereof was exceeding great," signifies the total destruction of genuine truth (n. 1028).

"Et omnis insula fugit, et montes non inventi sunt. Et grando magna quasi talenti pondo, descendit de caelo super homines; et blasphemarunt homines Deum prae plaga grandinis, quia magna erat plaga ejus valde."
20. "Et omnis insula fugit", significat quod amplius non aliquod verum fidei esset (n. 1024); "et montes non inventi sunt", significat quod amplius non aliquod bonum amoris esset (n. 1025).
21. "Et grando magna, quasi talenti pondo descendit de caelo super homines", significat falsa maxime infernalia destruentia omnem intellectum veri apud homines ecclesiae (n. 1026); "et blasphemarunt homines Deum prae plaga grandinis", significat falsificationem Verbi inde (n. 1027); "quia magna erat plaga ejus valde", significat destructionem genuini veri totalem (n. 1028).
