508. Verses 8, 9. And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea; and the third part of the sea became blood. And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had lives, died; and the third part of the ships perished.- "And the second angel sounded," signifies influx out of heaven, and the second change which came upon the evil; "and as it were a great mountain burning with fire," signifies the love of self, and thence of [one's] own intelligence; "was cast into the sea," signifies into the natural man; "and the third part of the sea became blood," signifies that everything became falsity of evil. "And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had lives, died," signifies that every living scientific in the natural man perished; "and the third part of the ships perished," signifies also that all the cognitions of truth and good from the Word, and the doctrines therefrom, perished.

8. "And the second angel sounded" signifies influx out of heaven, and the second consequent change with the evil (n. 509); "and as it were a great mountain burning with fire," signifies the love of self and of self-intelligence therefrom n. 510; "was cast into the sea," signifies into the natural man (n. 511); "and the third part of the sea became blood," signifies that in consequence everything therein became falsity of evil n. 512.
9. "And there died the third part of the creatures in the sea having souls," signifies that in consequence every living knowledge [scientificum] in the natural man perished n. 513; "and the third part of the ships was destroyed," signifies that all knowledge of truth and good from the Word and from doctrines from the Word also perished (n. 514).

"Et secundus angelus clanxit, et quasi mons magnus igne ardens missus est in mare, et facta est tertia pars maris sanguis. Et mortua est tertia pars creaturarum illarum in mari habentium animas, et tertia pars navium periit."
8. "Et secundus angelus clanxit", significat influxum e caelo, et secundam mutationem inde apud malos [n. 509] ; "et quasi mons magnus igne ardens", significat amorem sui et inde propriae intelligentiae [n. 510] ; "missus est in mare, "significat in naturalem hominem [n. 511] ; "Et facta est tertia pars maris sanguis", significat quod inde omne factum sit falsum mali inibi [n. 512] .
9. "Et mortua est tertia pars creaturarum illarum in mari habentium animas", significat quod inde perierit omne scientificum vivum in naturali homine [513] ; "et tertia pars navium periit", significat quod etiam omnes cognitiones veri et boni ex Verbo, et ex doctrinis inde [n. 514] .
