309. Since the subject is the forms of useful functions, I need to discuss them in the following sequence.
1. Earth has an active tendency to bring forth useful functions in particular forms, or forms of useful functions.
2. In all such forms there is some image of the creation of the universe.
3. In all such forms there is some human image.
4. In all such forms there is some image of what is infinite and eternal.
309. But as we are here discussing forms of use, we will say something about them under the following headings:
(1) The earth has in it an endeavor to produce useful ends in forms, or forms of use.
(2) All forms of use have in them some image of the creation of the universe.
(3) All forms of use have in them some image of the human being.
(4) All forms of use have in them some image of the Infinite and Eternal.
309. But because the forms of uses are here treated of, the subjects will be detailed in the following order:
(i) In the earths there is a conatus to produce uses in forms, that is, forms of uses.
(ii) In all forms of uses there is a certain image of the creation of the universe.
(iii) In all forms of uses there is a certain image of man.
(iv) In all forms of uses there is a certain image of the Infinite and the Eternal.
309. But as the forms of uses are here treated of, the subject shall be set forth in the following order:
(1) In lands there is a conatus to produce uses in forms, that is, forms of uses.
(2) In all forms of uses there is a kind of image of the creation of the universe.
(3) In all forms of uses there is a kind of image of man.
(4) In all forms of uses there is a kind of image of the Infinite and the Eternal.
I. Quod in terris sit conatus producendi usus in formis, seu formas usuum. II.
