261. These now are the considerations cited above in no. 238 by which the natural person confirms himself, or may confirm himself, against Divine providence. Still others now follow, which were listed above in no. 239, which may also serve the natural man as arguments against Divine providence, and which may also occur to the minds of others and raise some doubts. These are as follows.

261. That covers the instances listed in 238 that strict materialists use or may use to justify their rejection of divine providence. Next we turn to the ones listed in 239. These too may serve materialists as arguments against divine providence; and they may cross other minds as well and raise doubts. They are the following.

261. These, then, are the grounds, as set forth above (n. 238), by which the natural man confirms or may confirm himself against the Divine Providence. There are still others mentioned above (n. 239) that also may serve the natural man as arguments against the Divine Providence, and may likewise occur to the minds (animus) of others and excite some doubts. These are:

261. Haec nunc sunt quae 1supra 238 allata sunt, per quae naturalis homo se confirmat, aut confirmare potest contra Divinam Providentiam; sequuntur adhuc aliqua, quae supra 239 memorata sunt, quae etiam naturali homini possunt pro argumentis inservire contra Divinam Providentiam, et quoque in aliorum animos incidere, et aliqua dubia excitare, quae sunt.
