Faith (Dole translation 2017) 28

28. This resource is of critical importance because without it no faith can take form. Our knowledge of what is true and good becomes part of our faith and strengthens it. If we have no such knowledge, faith does not happen. There is no such thing as an empty faith, a faith without content. If we have only a little of such knowledge, our faith is weak and needy. If we have an abundance of such knowledge, our faith becomes rich and full in proportion to that abundance.

Doctrine of Faith (Rogers translation 2014) 28

28. This storehouse is extremely necessary, since no faith can be formed without it. For concepts of truth and goodness enter into faith and constitute it. Without them there is no faith. A faith entirely vacant and empty is not possible. If the concepts are few, the faith is weak and impoverished. If they are many, the faith is rich and full, according to their number.

Doctrine of Faith (Rogers translation 1954) 28

28. This store of cognitions is especially necessary, because without it faith cannot be formed. For the cognitions of what is true and good enter into and form faith. If these are wanting, faith does not come into existence, for a faith entirely empty and void is not possible. If they are few, the faith is slight and poor; but if they are abundant, the faith is rich and full according to their abundance.

Doctrine of Faith (Potts translation 1904) 28

28. This storehouse of material is in the highest degree necessary, because faith cannot be formed without it, for the knowledges [cognitiones] of truth and good enter into faith and make it, so that if there are no knowledges, faith cannot come forth into being, for an entirely void and empty faith is impossible. If the knowledges are scanty, the faith is consequently very small and meager; if they are abundant, the faith becomes proportionately rich and full.

Doctrina Novae Hierosolymae de Fide 28 (original Latin 1763)
