The Lord (Dole translation 2014) 50

50. 4. Where “spirit” is used in speaking of the Lord, it means his divine life and therefore the Lord himself.

The one whom the Father sent speaks the words of God; without limit God has given him the spirit. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. (John 3:34-35)

A shoot will go forth from the trunk of Jesse; the spirit of Jehovah will rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, the spirit of counsel and strength. (Isaiah 11:1-2)

I have put my spirit upon him; he will bring forth judgment to the nations. (Isaiah 42:1)

He will come [to us] as a narrow river; in him the spirit of Jehovah will bring [us] a sign. Then he will come to Zion as the Redeemer. (Isaiah 59:19-20)

The spirit of the Lord Jehovih is upon me; Jehovah has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18)

Jesus perceived in his spirit that they were having these thoughts within themselves. (Mark 2:8)

Jesus rejoiced in his spirit and said... (Luke 10:21)

Jesus was troubled in his spirit. (John 13:21)

Jesus sighed deeply in his spirit. (Mark 8:12)

[2] “Spirit” [stands] for Jehovah himself or the Lord.

God is a spirit. (John 4:24)

Who directed the spirit of Jehovah, or who was the man of his counsel? (Isaiah 40:13)

The spirit of Jehovah led them by means of the hand of Moses. (Isaiah 63:11-12, 14)

Where shall I go from your spirit, and where shall I flee? (Psalms 139:7)

Jehovah said, “[Zerubbabel] will accomplish this not by might but by my spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6)

They angered the spirit of his holiness; therefore he turned into an enemy for them. (Psalms 106:33)

My spirit will not contend with humankind forever, because humankind is flesh. (Genesis 6:3)

I will not dispute forever, because the spirit would fail in my presence. (Isaiah 57:16)

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, but someone who says a word against the Son of Humanity will be forgiven. (Matthew 12:31-32; Mark 3:28-30; Luke 12:10)

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is blasphemy against the Lord’s divine nature. Blasphemy against the Son of Humanity is something contrary to the Word, understanding its meaning differently. The Son of Humanity is the Lord as the Word, as already explained.

Doctrine of the Lord (Rogers translation 2014) 50

50. Whenever the term spirit is applied to the Lord, it means His Divine life, thus the Lord Himself. This is clear from the following:

...He whom (the Father) has sent speaks the words of God. ...God does not give (Him) the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. (John 3:34-35)

There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse.... The Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might.... (Isaiah 11:1-2)

I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring judgment to the nations. (Isaiah 42:1)

...he will come like a narrow stream; the Spirit of Jehovah will put a sign on him; then the Redeemer will come to Zion.... (Isaiah 59:19-20)

The Spirit of the Lord Jehovih is upon Me; ...Jehovah has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor. (Isaiah 61:1, cf. Luke 4:18)

...Jesus, knowing in His spirit that they thought thus within themselves.... (Mark 2:8)

...Jesus rejoiced in (His) spirit and said.... (Luke 10:21)

...Jesus...was troubled in (His) spirit.... (John 13:21)

(Jesus,) sighing in (His) spirit.... (Mark 8:12)

[2] Spirit stands for Jehovah Himself, or the Lord:

God is a Spirit.... (John 4:24)

Who has directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or what man that of His counsel? (Isaiah 40:13)

(The Spirit of Jehovah) led them by the...hand of Moses.... (Isaiah 63:12, 14)

Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee.... (Psalms 139:7)

(Jehovah said,) “Not by might..., but by My Spirit (he shall act).” (Zechariah 4:6)

They...provoked the Spirit of His holiness; therefore He turned against them as an enemy.... (Isaiah 63:10, cf. Psalms 106:33)

My Spirit shall not indict mankind forever, for they are flesh. (Genesis 6:3)

...I will not contend forever..., for the Spirit would fail before Me.... (Isaiah 57:16)

...blasphemy against the (Holy) Spirit will not be forgiven..., but whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. (Matthew 12:31-32, cf. Mark 3:28-30, Luke 12:10)

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is blasphemy against the Lord’s Divinity. But a word against the Son of man is something said against the Word, by interpreting its meaning wrongly. For the Son of man is the Lord in relation to the Word, as we have shown above.

Doctrine of the Lord (Dick translation 1954) 50

50. 4. WHERE SPIRIT IS MENTIONED IN REFERENCE TO THE LORD, IT MEANS His DIVINE LIFE, AND CONSEQUENTLY THE LORD HIMSELF. This appears from the following passages:

He whom the Father hath sent speaks the words of God: for God giveth not the spirit by measure unto Him.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand. John 3:34-35.

There shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse ...

The spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might. Isaiah 11:1-2.

I have put my spirit upon Him; He shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. Isaiah 42:1.

He shall come in like a pent up river (A.V. flood), the spirit of Jehovah shall lift up a standard against him.

Then the Redeemer shall come to Zion. Isaiah 59:19-20.

The spirit of the Lord Jehovih is upon me: Jehovah hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor. Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18.

Jesus perceived in His spirit that they so reasoned within themselves. Mark 2:8.

... Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said. Luke 10:21.

Jesus was troubled in His spirit. John 13:21.

Jesus sighed deeply in His spirit. Mark 8:12.

[2] Spirit stands for Jehovah Himself, that is, the Lord.

God is a Spirit. John 4:24.

Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or who was the man of His counsel? Isaiah 40:13.

The Spirit of Jehovah led them by the hand of Moses. Isaiah 63:12, 14.

Whither shall I go from thy Spirit, or whither shall I flee ... Psalm 139:7.

Jehovah said, Not by might, but by my Spirit shall he do it. Zechariah 4:6.

They vexed His Holy Spirit: therefore He was turned to be their enemy. [Isaiah 63:10;] Psalm 106:33.

My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh. Genesis 6:3.

I will not contend for ever ... for the Spirit should fail before me. Isaiah 57:16.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven ...

But whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him. Matthew 12:31-32; Mark 3:28-30; Luke 12:10.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is blasphemy against the Divine of the Lord, but a word against the Son of Man is something against the Word, by interpreting the sense of it wrongly. For the Son of Man is the Lord as to the Word, as was shown above.

Doctrine of the Lord (Potts translation 1904) 50

50. iv. That where "spirit" is said of the Lord, there is meant His Divine life, thus the Lord Himself, is evident from these passages:

He whom the Father hath sent speaketh the words of God, for God hath not given the spirit by measure unto Him; the Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand (John 3:34, 35).

There shall go forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and the spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, the spirit of counsel and might (Isaiah 11:1, 2).

I have put My spirit upon Him, He shall bring forth judgment to the nations (Isaiah 42:1).

When the enemy shall come as a pent-up stream, the spirit of Jehovah shall lift up a standard against him; then shall the Redeemer come to Zion (Isaiah 59:19, 20).

The spirit of the Lord Jehovih is upon Me; Jehovah hath anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18).

Jesus knowing in His spirit that they so reasoned within themselves (Mark 2:8).

Jesus exulted in spirit, and said (Luke 10:21).

Jesus was troubled in His spirit (John 13:21).

Jesus sighed in His spirit (Mark 8:12).

[2] "Spirit" as used for Jehovah Himself, that is, the Lord:

God is a Spirit (John 4:24).

Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or who is a man of His counsel? (Isaiah 40:13).

The Spirit of Jehovah led them by the hand of Moses (Isaiah 63:12, 14).

Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit, and whither shall I flee? (Psalm 139:7).

Jehovah said, Not by might, but by My Spirit shall he do it (Zechariah 4:6).

They provoked the Spirit of His holiness, therefore He was turned to be their enemy (Isaiah 63:10; Psalm 106:33, 40).

My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is flesh (Genesis 6:3).

I will not contend to eternity, for the Spirit should fail before Me (Isaiah 57:16).

The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven; but he who shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven (Matthew 12:31, 32; Mark 3:28-30; Luke 12:10).

"Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit," is blasphemy against the Lord's Divine; "a word against the Son of man," is something said against the Word by wrongly interpreting its meaning; for "the Son of man" is the Lord in respect to the Word, as has been shown above.

Doctrina Novae Hierosolymae de Domino 50 (original Latin 1763)

50. ((iv.))

"Dedi spiritum meum super illum, judicium gentibus proferet" (Esaiam 42:1).

"Veniet sicut flumen angustum, spiritus Jehovae signum inferet in illo; tunc veniet Zioni Redemptor" (Esaiam 59:19-20).

"Spiritus Domini Jehovih super Me,... unxit Jehovah Me ad evangelizandum pauperibus" (Esaiam 61:1; Lucam 4:18).

"Jesus cognoscens spiritu suo, quod sic cogitarent intra se..." (Marcum 2:8).

"Exultavit spiritu Jesus, et dixit (Lucam 10:21).

"Jesus turbatus spiritu suo" (Johannem 13:21).

Jesus "suspirans spiritu suo" (Marcum 8:12).

[2] Spiritus pro Ipso Jehovah seu Domino:

"Spiritus Deus est" (Johannem 4:24).

"Quis direxit spiritum Jehovae, aut quis vir consilii Ipsius?" (Esaiam 40:13; Sachariam 4:6.)

"Spiritus Jehovae duxit illos per manum Mosis" (Esaiam 63:14).

"Quo abivero a spiritu tuo, et quo... avolavero?" (Psalm 139:7.)

"Dixit Jehovah Non per robur, sed per spiritum meum faciet" (Sachariam 4:6).

"Illi exacerbarunt spiritum sanctitatis Ipsius; unde conversus est illis in hostem" ((Esaiam 63:10;) Psalm 106:33).

"Non arguet spiritus meus hominem in perpetuum, quia caro est" (Genesis 6:3).

"Non... in aeternum litigabo,... quia spiritus coram Me deficeret" (Esaiam 57:16 1).

"Blasphemia contra Spiritum Sanctum non remittetur; sed qui dixerit verbum contra Filium hominis remittetur" (Matthaeum 12:31-32; Marcum 3:28-30; Lucam 12:10):

"Blasphemia contra Spiritum Sanctum," est blasphemia contra Divinum Domini:" (verbum) contra Filium hominis," est aliquid contra Verbum, sensum ejus aliter interpretando; "Filius hominis" enim est Dominus quoad Verbum, ut supra ostensum est.
