Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 1305

1305. Mental images among spirits are not like our words, as we can deduce from the fact that those of spirits come down into the words of every language. Therefore, if the ideas or speech of some spirit happened to flow into different people who spoke different languages, then even though he spoke in only one way, each would hear him talking in their own language or idiom.

So ideas of this kind are a different matter among spirits. They notice at once if profane mental images are mixed with holy ones. They strike their minds immediately, and they are aware of the profanation, differently than people on earth. 1748, 11 March.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 1305

1305. Ideas with spirits are not like words with us. This can also be concluded from the fact that the ideas of spirits fall into the words of any language whatsoever, so that if it were granted, the ideas or speech of any spirit might flow into various persons who spoke different languages; in such case although the spirit spoke only in one manner, each one would perceive what he said in his own language or idiom. Wherefore such profane ideas are circumstanced differently amongst spirits, for they at once notice the profane things that are mixed with the holy things, so that it immediately strikes their minds and they perceive the profanation, otherwise than man does. 1748, Mar. 11.

Experientiae Spirituales 1305 (original Latin 1748-1764)

1748, 11 Martius.

3. This is how it appears in J.F.I. Tafel's edition; the Manuscript has prophanae sanctis mixta sed forte legendum prophanae [ideae] sanctis mixtae
