2082. Secret inner envy, which is ill will in the thoughts, is much more destructive than that which comes out in hatred, or breaks out in anger, the latter being more easily wiped away. For the secret, inner kind, that of the thoughts, also entails an entering with the thought into the pleasant inward thoughts of spirits, seizing them for oneself, and at once, in one short moment, destroying them. 1748, 27 May.
2082. Secret and inward hatred, or hatred in the thoughts, is much more pernicious than the hatred which comes out, or bursts forth in hatred [odium] or anger. This latter can more readily be removed; for secret or internal hatred, or that of the thoughts, is also attended with this, that in thought it penetrates such pleasant thoughts of spirits as are interior, snatching them to itself, and immediately, and indeed in a moment, destroying them. - 1748, May 27.
