Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 2458

2458. As for defects of the body that do not arise from mental attitudes, the case is different, as for example if someone feels nausea from wine or intoxicating drink due to some cause in the body, or something of the kind due to diseases, such defects also occur with brute animals. But we are talking about moral and spiritual ills. Evils of the body render us almost like one who cannot walk, and consequently does not want to, because of a broken or wounded foot, and like cases.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 2458

2458. As respects the vices of the body which [do not arise] from the mind [animo] and mind [mente] the case is different, so that if he takes up a distaste for wine or intoxicating drink from any cause in the body, or any such thing [results] from disease, there are also such things with the brutes; but the discourse is concerning moral and spiritual evils. The evils of the body are almost circumstanced like one who is not able to walk, and hence does not desire to, because his foot is broken or wounded and the like.
