Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 2482

2482. I may be permitted to add that the learned in the literate world who want to enter by philosophical ways even into the earthly mysteries of the soul, and still more those who want to enter thus into the mysteries of faith, have blinded themselves even to the point that they afterwards see nothing, nor do they believe; so that one who has never thought at all about these matters, and still possesses native discernment, is very many times more learned. 1748, 1 July.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 2482

2482. It may be proper to add that the learned in the literary world, because they desire from philosophies to enter into arcana, even the naturals concerning the soul, and still more [those] who [wish to enter] into the arcana of faith, have blinded themselves to such an extent that they see nothing thereafter, and do not believe; so that he who has never thought anything about these matters, and still enjoys good [pollet] natural light [lumine], is very many times more learned. - 1748, July 1.

Experientiae Spirituales 2482 (original Latin 1748-1764)

1748, 1 Julius.
