2907. No one except the Lord Alone knows the inward qualities of anyone, such as this person-what kind of hatred it is, whether it is one of revenge, or of jealousy, or of some other kind. For there are kinds and species of hatreds, and countless diversity [in each species. Nor does anyone know] its origin, how much of it came into actual practice and thus became his own, besides numerous other considerations.
2907. No one knows the interiors of anyone, but the Lord alone: thus of this one, of what quality is his hatred, whether that of vengeance, of envy, or of another kind: for there are genera and species of hatreds and indefinite varieties [thereof]: from which [may be known] how much there is of the actual [principle of man], thus his proprium, and very many other things.
