Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 4015

4015. Because of these removals of lower elements, it is evident how the case is with man before he can come very inwardly into heaven, namely, that bodily elements must die - even the bodily memory - so that the spirit may emerge. Also the mental imagery proper to lower spirits must die, as it were, so that he may have inward mental imagery, or that of angelic spirits - which also must die, so that he may become an angel. In whose realm there is direct communication. Then it is also clear how lower mental imagery is nevertheless portrayed, as well as other kinds. These words [were written] in the presence of spirits who had thought about these matters. 1748, 20 Nov.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 4015

4015. Inasmuch as there may be such removals of lower things, it hence appears how the case is with man; there must be a death of corporeal things even of the corporeal memory, that the spirit may be developed. The ideas also which are appropriate to lower spirits must undergo a kind of death, in order that one may be in interior ideas, or the ideas of angelic spirits. It hence appears, too, how these ideas must be removed in order to one's becoming an angel, when communication is immediate; and finally, how lower ideas are nevertheless represented; besides other things. -All this is said in the presence of spirits who have pondered upon the subject. - 1748, November 20.

Experientiae Spirituales 4015 (original Latin 1748-1764)

1748, 20 Nov.
