5091. They commit horrifying adulteries because they falsify Divine Truth to favor their strong desires. Their ability to defend all evils [on the basis of statements] from the Word was explored. Experience showed that they could defend adulteries, murders, thefts, and more in the Decalogue as permissible; and that the power of forgiving all of these [has been given] to those who are priests.
5091. That they commit horrible adulteries, is, because they falsify Divine Truth to favor their concupiscences. The fact that they are able to defend all evils from the Word was inquired into. Experimental proof was furnished that they can defend, as lawful, adulteries, murders, thefts and many more things forbidden in the Decalogue, and make it appear, that, to those who are priests, belongs the power of remitting all of them.
5091. Quod illi committant horrenda adulteria, est quia falsificant Divinum Verum, ad favorem concupiscentiarum suarum; exploratum quod possint defendere ex Verbo omnia mala, experientia facta, quod possint adulteria, neces, furta, et plura quae decalogi defendere, quod licita; et quod potestas remittendi omnia illis qui sacerdotes.
