337. 1. The Faith That Saves Us Is Faith in the Lord God Our Savior Jesus Christ
The faith that saves is faith in God our Savior, because he is divine and human. He is in the Father and the Father is in him; therefore they are one. If we turn to him, we are turning to the Father as well - to the one only God. Faith in any other god does not save us.
We are to believe or have faith in the Son of God, the Redeemer and Savior, conceived by Jehovah and born from the Virgin Mary, who is named Jesus Christ. This is clear from commands that he, and later his apostles, frequently repeated.
The following passages make it clear that he himself commanded us to have faith in him:
Jesus said, "This is the will of the Father who sent me, that all who see the Son and believe in him should have eternal life, and I will revive them on the last day. " (John 6:40)
Those who believe in the Son have eternal life. Those who do not believe in the Son will not see life; instead God's anger will remain upon them. (John 3:36)
So that all who believe in the Son would not perish but would have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son so that everyone who believes in him would not perish but would have eternal life. (John 3:15-16)
Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will never die. " (John 11:25-26)
Truly, truly I say to you, those who believe in me have eternal life. I am the bread of life. (John 6:47-48)
I am the bread of life. Those who come to me will never hunger and those who believe in me will never thirst. (John 6:35)
Jesus cried out, saying, "If any are thirsty, they must come to me and drink. If any believe in me, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water will flow out of their bellies. " (John 7:37-38)
They said to Jesus, "What shall we do to perform the works of God?" Jesus answered, "This is God's work, to believe in the One whom the Father sent. " (John 6:28-29)
As long as you have the light, believe in the light so that you may be children of the light. (John 12:36)
Those who believe in the Son of God are not judged; but those who do not believe have already been judged because they have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18)
These things have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Son of God and through believing may have life in his name. (John 20:31)
Unless you have believed that I am [he], you will die in your sins. (John 8:24)
Jesus said, "When the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, has come, it will convict the world of sin, of justice, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in me. " (John 16:8-9)
337. I. Saving faith is in the Lord God the Saviour Jesus Christ.
Saving faith is in God as Saviour, because He is God and man, and He is in the Father and the Father is in Him, so that they are one. Those therefore who approach Him, at the same time approach the Father, that is, the one and only God, and saving faith is in no other. We are to believe or have faith in the Son of God, the Redeemer and Saviour, who was conceived of Jehovah and born of the Virgin Mary,, and was named Jesus Christ. This is evident from His own often-repeated commands, and later from those of the Apostles. The following passages show clearly that He commanded faith in Himself:
Jesus said, This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him should have everlasting life, and I should raise him up on the last day, John 6:40.
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; but he who does not believe in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God rests upon him, John 3:36.
So that everyone who believes in the Son may not perish, but have everlasting life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life, John 3:15-16.
Jesus said, I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in Me shall not ever die, John 11:25-26.
In truth I say to you, he who believes in me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life, John 6:47-48.
I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in Me will never be thirsty, John 6:35.
Jesus cried out saying, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. If anyone believes in me, as the Scripture says, streams of living water will flow from his belly, John 7:37-38.
They said to Jesus, What shall we do to perform God's work? Jesus answered, This is God's work, to believe in Him whom the Father has sent, John 6:28-29.
So long as you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may be sons of light, John 12:36.
He who believes in the Son of God is not judged; but he who does not believe has already been judged, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God, John 3:18.
These things have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and so that by believing you may have life in His name, John 20:31.
If you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins, John 8:24.
Jesus said, When the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will try the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, for not believing in Me, John 16:8-9.
337. I. SAVING FAITH IS FAITH IN THE LORD GOD THE SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.
Saving faith is faith in God the Savior, because He is God and Man, and He is in the Father and the Father in Him; thus they are one; therefore those who go to Him, at the same time go to the Father also, thus to the one and only God, and there is no saving faith in any other. That men ought to believe or have faith in the Son of God, the Redeemer and Savior, conceived from Jehovah, born of the virgin Mary, and called Jesus Christ, is evident from the commands so frequently repeated by Him and afterwards by His apostles. That faith in Him was commanded by Himself, is clearly evident from the following passages:
Jesus said, This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that everyone who beholdeth the Son and believeth in Him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6:40).
He that believeth in the Son hath eternal life but he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him (John 3:36)
That whosoever believeth in the Son should not perish, but have eternal life for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:15, 16).
Jesus said, I am the Resurrection and the Life; he that believeth in Me shall never die (John 11:25, 26).
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth in Me hath eternal life. I am the bread of life (John 6:47, 48).
I am the bread of life; he that cometh to Me shall not hunger, and he that believeth in Me shall never thirst (John 6:35).
Jesus cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink; he that believeth in Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water (John 7:37, 38).
They said to Jesus, What must we do, that we may work the works of God? Jesus answered, This is the work of God, that ye believe in Him whom He hath sent (that is, the Father) (John 6:28, 29).
While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be sons of light (John 12:36).
He that believeth in the Son of God is not judged; but he that believeth not hath been judged already because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:18).
These things are written that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye may have life in His name (John 20:31).
Unless ye believe that I am, ye shall die in your sins (John 8:24).
Jesus said, When the Comforter, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will convict the world respecting sin, and righteousness, and judgment; respecting sin, because they believe not in Me (John 16:8, 9).
337. I. A SAVING FAITH IS FAITH IN THE LORD GOD THE SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.
A saving faith is faith in God the Savior, because He is God and Man, and He is in the Father, and the Father in Him, and thus they are one; therefore those who approach Him, at the same time approach the Father also, and thus the one and only God; and there is no saving faith in any other. That we ought to believe, or have faith, in the Son of God, the Redeemer and Savior, who was conceived of Jehovah and born of the virgin Mary, and called Jesus Christ, is evident from the commands so frequently repeated by Him, and afterwards by His apostles. That He enjoined faith in Himself is plainly evident from the following passages:
Jesus said, "This is the Father's will which hath sent me... That every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day" John 6:40.
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him" John 3:36.
"That whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" John 3:15-16.
"Jesus said... I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me... shall never die" John 11:25-26.
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life" John 6:47-48.
"I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst" John 6:35.
"Jesus cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" John 7:37-38.
They said to Jesus: "What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and, said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He (the Father) hath sent" John 6:28-29.
"While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light" John 12:36.
"He that believeth on the Son of God is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" John 3:18.
"But these things are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is... the Son of God: and that believing ye might have life through His name" John 20:31
"For if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins" John 8:24.
Jesus said: "When He is come, 'the Comforter, the Spirit of truth,' He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me" John 16:8, (9).
337. I. Quod Fides salvifica sit in Dominum Deum Salvatorem Jesum Christum.
Quod Fides salvifica sit in Deum Salvatorem, est quia Ille est Deus et Homo, et Ipse in Patre et Pater in Ipso, et sic unum, quare qui Ipsum adeunt, simul etiam Patrem adeunt, et sic Deum unum et unicum, et fides salvifica non datur in alium. Quod credendum seu fides habenda sit in FILIUM DEI, Redemptorem et Salvatorem, conceptum a Jehovah et natum a Maria Virgine, nominatum JESUS CHRISTUS, constat ex mandatis frequenter iteratis ab Ipso, et postea ab Apostolis. Quod fides in Ipsum mandata sit ab Ipso, manifeste patet ex his locis;
Amen, amen dico vobis, QUI CREDIT IN ME, habet vitam aeternam; Ego sum Panis vitae, Johannes 6:47-48.
Ego sum Panis vitae; QUI VENIT AD ME, non esuriet, et qui CREDIT IN ME, non sitiet unquam, Johannes 6:35.
Jesus clamavit dicens, si quis sitiverit, venito 1 ad Me, et bibito; 2 QUISQUIS CREDIT IN ME, sicut dixit Scriptura, flumina ex ventre ejus fluent aquae viventis, Johannes 7:37-38.
Dixerunt ad Jesum, quid faciemus ut operemur opera Dei; respondit Jesus, hoc est opus Dei, UT CREDATIS IN IPSUM, QUEM MISIT PATER, Johannes 6:28-29.
Quousque Lucem habetis, CREDITE IN LUCEM, ut filii Lucis sitis, Johannes 12:36.
Qui CREDIT IN FILIUM DEI, non judicatur, QUI AUTEM NON CREDIT, jam judicatus est, QUIA NON CREDIDIT in Nomen Unigeniti Filii Dei, Johannes 3:18.
Haec scripta sunt, ut CREDATIS QUOD JESUS SIT FILIUS DEI, 3 et ut Credentes vitam habeatis in Nomine Ipsius, Johannes 20:31.
NISI CREDIDERITIS QUOD EGO SIM, moriemini in peccatis vestris, Johannes 8:24.
Jesus dixit, cum venerit Paracletus spiritus veritatis, arguet Mundum de Peccato, Justitia et Judicio; de Peccato, quod non CREDUNT IN ME, 4 Johannes 16:8-9. 5
