5169# "酒政却不记念约瑟"象征自然层面与属天层面尚未完全结合。这可从"记念或想起约瑟"的含义中看出,即信仰的接受(参5130节),因此也是结合,因为结合是通过信仰这一媒介实现的。所以这里"不记念"是指结合尚未完全。以及从"酒政长"的代表意义中看出,即理智部分的感官层面;从"约瑟"的代表意义中看出,即自然层面中的属天层面,关于这些见上文所述。

  5169.“酒政长却不记念约瑟”表与属世层的属天层完全没有联结。这从“记念约瑟”的含义,以及“酒政长”和“约瑟”的代表清楚可知:“记念约瑟”是指对信仰的接受,如前所述(5130节),因而是指一种联结,这种联结通过信仰实现,故此处“不记念”表示完全没有联结;“酒政长”是指属于理解力部分的感官觉知;“约瑟”是指属世层的属天层,如前所述。

5169. And the prince of the butlers did not remember Joseph. That this signifies that there was not as yet conjunction in every way with the celestial of the natural, is evident from the signification of "remembering Joseph," as being the reception of faith (of which above, see n. 5130), and consequently conjunction, because conjunction is effected by means of faith; here therefore "not remembering" means that there was not as yet conjunction in every way; and from the representation of the prince of the butlers, as being the sensuous of the intellectual part; and from the representation of Joseph, as being the celestial of the natural (of which above).

5169. 'And the chief of the cupbearers did not remember Joseph' means that a complete joining to the celestial of the natural did not as yet exist. This is clear from the meaning of 'remembering Joseph' as the reception of faith, dealt with above in 5130 - and consequently as a joining together too (faith is the means by which the joining together is effected, and therefore 'not remembering' here means that a complete joining together did not as yet exist); from the representation of 'the chief of the cupbearers' as the sensory perception belonging to the understanding part, and from the representation of 'Joseph' as the celestial of the natural, both of which representations are dealt with above.
