Apocalypse Revealed (Rogers translation 2007) 37

37. And I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet. This symbolizes a manifest perception of Divine truth revealed from heaven.

A loud voice, when heard from heaven, symbolizes Divine truth, as we will show next. It sounded like the voice of a trumpet for the reason that when Divine truth descends from heaven, it is sometimes heard as such by angels of the lowest heaven, and they then manifestly perceive it. That is why "a voice, as of a trumpet" symbolizes a manifest perception. More on the symbolism of a trumpet will be seen in nos. 397 and 519 below.

That a loud voice, when heard from heaven, symbolizes Divine truth, is apparent from the following passages:

The voice of Jehovah is over the waters... The voice of Jehovah is powerful; the voice of Jehovah is accompanied with honor. The voice of Jehovah breaks the cedars... The voice of Jehovah falls like a flame of fire. The voice of Jehovah shakes the wilderness... The voice of Jehovah makes the deer give birth... (Psalms 29:3-9)

You kingdoms of the earth..., sing praises to the Lord... Behold, He will send out His voice, a mighty voice. (Psalms 68:32-33)

Jehovah has given voice before His army...; for numerous is he who obeys His word. (Joel 2:2)

Jehovah... will utter His voice from Jerusalem. (Joel 3:16)

Moreover, because a voice symbolizes Divine truth from the Lord, therefore the Lord said that "the sheep hear His voice," that "they know His voice" (John 10:3-4). Also,

Other sheep I have...; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice... My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. (John 10:16, 27)

And elsewhere:

The hour is coming... when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of Man, 1and those who hear will live. (John 5:25)

The voice here is the Lord's Divine truth emanating from His Word.

Apocalypse Revealed (Coulson translation 1970) 37

37. 'And heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet' signifies a manifest perception of Divine Truth revealed out of heaven. 'A great voice,' when it is heard out of heaven signifies Divine Truth, about which [something] follows. It was heard 'as of a trumpet' because when Divine Truth is descending out of heaven it is sometimes so heard by angels of the lowest heaven, and is then manifestly perceived. It is in consequence of this that by 'a voice as of a trumpet' manifest perception is signified. Something further about the signification of a trumpet will be seen below (397, 519). That 'a great voice,' when it is heard out of heaven, signifies Divine Truth is plain from these passages:

The voice of Jehovah upon the waters, the voice of Jehovah in vigour, the voice of Jehovah with honour, the voice of Jehovah breaking the cedars, the voice of Jehovah falling as a flame of fire, the voice of Jehovah makes the wilderness to tremble, the voice of Jehovah makes the hinds to bring forth. Psalms 29:3-9.

Sing psalms to the Lord, O kingdoms of the earth, behold He will give in His voice a voice of strength. Psalms 68:32-33 [H.B. 33-34].

Jehovah uttered His voice in the presence of [His] army, for beyond number it does His Word. Joel 2:11.

Jehovah will give forth His voice from Jerusalem. Joel 3:16 [H.B. 4:16].

And since 'voice' signifies the Divine Truth [coming] out of the Lord, therefore the Lord said that:

The sheep hear His voice; they know His voice; I also have other sheep which I ought to bring, and they shall hear My voice. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:3-4, 16, 27.

And elsewhere:

The hour is coming when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of Man, and they who hear shall live. John 5:25.

'Voice' here is the Divine Truth of the Lord out of His Word.

Apocalypse Revealed (Whitehead translation 1928) 37

37. And I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, signifies manifest perception of the Divine truth revealed from heaven. "A great voice," when heard from heaven, signifies the Divine truth, of which presently; it was heard "as a trumpet," because when the Divine truth descends from heaven, it is sometimes so heard by the angels of the lowest heaven, and then is manifestly perceived. Therefore, by "a voice as of a trumpet," is signified manifest perception; of the signification of trumpet, more will be seen below, (397, 519). That "a great voice" when heard from heaven signifies Divine truth is evident from these passages:

The voice of Jehovah is upon the water, the voice of Jehovah is in power, the voice of Jehovah is with honor, the voice of Jehovah breaketh the cedars, the voice of Jehovah falleth as a flame of fire; the voice of Jehovah maketh the wilderness to tremble; the voice of Jehovah maketh the hinds to bring forth, (Psalms 29:3-9).

Sing psalms to the Lord ye kingdoms of the earth, behold He will give forth His voice, a voice of strength, (Psalms 68:32-33).

Jehovah gave forth His voice before His army, for numberless, it doeth His Word, (Joel 2:11).

Jehovah will give forth His voice from Jerusalem, (Joel 3:16).

And since "voice" signifies the Divine truth from the Lord, therefore the Lord said that:

The sheep hear His voice; they know His voice; and other sheep I have, them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice; My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me, (John 10:3-4, 16, 27).

And in another place:

The hour cometh, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of man, and they that hear shall live, (John 5:25).

"Voice" here is the Divine truth of the Lord from his Word.

Apocalypsis Revelata 37 (original Latin 1766)

37. "Et audivi post me vocem magnam tanquam tubae," significat perceptionem manifestam Divini Veri e Caelo revelati.

"Vox Jehovae super aquis: Vox Jehovae in virtute: Vox Jehovae cum honore: Vox Jehovae frangens cedros: Vox Jehovae incidens ut flamma ignis: Vox Jehovae trepidare facit desertum; Vox Jehovae parturire facit cervas," (Psalm 29:3-9);

"Regna terrae psallite Domino, ecce dabit in Voce Sua Vocem roboris," (Psalm 68:33-34 (B.A. 32-33));

"Jehovah edidit Vocem Suam coram Exercitu, quia innumerus (qui) facit Verbum Ipsius," (Joel 2:11);

"Jehovah ex Hierosolyma dabit Vocem Suam," (Joel 4:16 (B.A. 3:16)); 1

et quia "Vox" significat Divinum Verum ex Domino, ideo Dominus dixit, quod Oves Vocem Ipsius audiant; quod sciant Vocem Ipsius; etiam "Alias Oves habeo, quas oportet Me adducere, et Vocem Meam audient; Oves Meae Vocem Meam audiunt, et Ego cognosco illas, et sequuntur Me," (Johannes 10:3-4, 16, 27);

et alibi:

"Venit hora, quando mortui audient Vocem Filii Hominis, et qui audiunt, vivent," (Johannes 5:25);

"Vox" hic est Divinum Verum Domini ex Verbo Ipsius.
