Apocalypse Revealed (Rogers translation 2007) 690

690. 16:8 Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl onto the sun. This symbolizes influx into the people's love.

To pour out the bowl symbolizes here, as before, an influx springing from goods and truths, here an influx into the people's love; for the sun symbolizes the Lord's Divine love, and in an opposite sense a love of self (nos. 53, 383, 414). Here it is a love of self, because we are told next that people were scorched with fire, and scorched with great heat, which symbolizes the lusts of that love.

Apocalypse Revealed (Coulson translation 1970) 690

690. [verse 8] 'And the fourth angel poured out his phial into the sun' signifies an influx into their love. By 'to pour out the phial' is signified, here as before, an influx of goods and truths. Here it is into their love, for by 'the sun' is signified the Lord's Divine Love, and in the opposite sense the love of self (53, 382, 414), here the love of self, because it follows on that men were struck down by fire and scorched with the great heat, by which the lusts of that love are signified.

Apocalypse Revealed (Whitehead translation 1928) 690

690. Verse 8. And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun, signifies influx into their love. By "pouring out his vial" is signified here, as before, influx from goods and truths, here into their love; for by "the sun" is signified the Divine love of the Lord, and, in the opposite sense, self-love, (53, 382, 414), here self-love, because it follows, that men were scorched with fire, and burned with great heat, by which are signified the concupiscences of that love.

Apocalypsis Revelata 690 (original Latin 1766)

690. (Vers. 8.)
