Potts(1905-1910) 3673
3673. Which God gave unto Abraham. That this signifies which is from the Divine, is evident from the representation of Abraham, as being the Lord as to the Divine which in the Word is called the "Father" (n. 2011, 3251, 3439). That "God gave" signifies that it was appropriated to the Lord, is evident; for that which is given is his to whom it is given. Hence it is manifest that by the words "which God gave unto Abraham," is signified life which is from the Divine.
Elliott(1983-1999) 3673
3673. 'Which God gave to Abraham' means which is received from the Divine. This is clear from the representation of 'Abraham' as the Lord's Divine, which in the Word is called 'the Father', dealt with in 2010, 3251, 3439. The words 'God gave' clearly mean that which became the Lord's own; for that which is given comes to belong to the one to whom it is given. From this it is evident that 'which God gave to Abraham' means life received from the Divine.
