Potts(1905-1910) 4239
4239. And Jacob sent messengers before him, to Esau his brother. That this signifies the first communication with celestial good, is evident from the signification of "sending messengers," as being to communicate; and from the representation of Esau, as being celestial good in the natural (see n. 3300, 3302, 3494, 3504, 3527, 3576, 3599, 3669). As before said (n. 4234), the subject here treated of is the conjunction of the truth Divine of the natural (which is "Jacob,") with the good Divine therein (which is "Esau"), and therefore the enlightenment of the natural from the Divine was first treated of (n. 4235); and here there is treated of the first communication, which is signified by Jacob's sending messengers to Esau his brother. (That in the Word good and truth are called "brothers," see n. 367, 3303).
Elliott(1983-1999) 4239
4239. 'Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau' means the first communication of that truth with celestial good. This is clear from the meaning of 'sending messengers' as communicating, and from the representation of 'Esau' as celestial good within the natural, dealt with in 3300, 3302, 3494, 3504, 3527, 3576, 3599, 3669. The subject at present, as stated above in 4234, is the joining of the Divine truth of the Natural, meant by 'Jacob', to the Divine good there, meant by 'Esau'. Consequently the enlightenment of the Natural by the Divine has been dealt with first, 4235, and now the first communication by the truth there, which is meant by the statement that 'Jacob sent messengers to his brother Esau'. Also, in the Word good and truth are referred to as 'brothers', see 367, 3303.

@1 I has 4231, A o but i n. 4234 after Jacob, where however it is deleted, and n. 4231 is inserted after Esau.$
