Potts(1905-1910) 4557

4557. He and all the people that were with him. That this signifies with all that was therein, namely, that was in the natural, is evident from the representation of Jacob, who here is "he," as being the good therein (see n. 4538); and from the signification of "people," as being truths (n. 1259, 1260, 2928, 3295, 3581); thus the "people that were with him" denotes the truths of that good. And as all things in the natural bear relation to good and truth, by these words is here signified with all that was therein.

Elliott(1983-1999) 4557

4557. 'He and all the people who were with him' means with all things there, that is to say, all things within the natural. This is clear from the representation of Jacob, to whom 'he' refers here, as the good there, dealt with in 4538, and from the meaning of 'the people' as the truths there, dealt with in 1259, 1260, 2928, 3295, 3581; so that 'the people who were with him' means the truths that go with that good. And because all the things within the natural are connected with goods and truths, the words used here mean with all things there.

Latin(1748-1756) 4557

4557. `Ille et omnis populus qui cum illo': quod significet cum omnibus ibi, nempe quae in naturali, constat a repraesentatione `Jacobi' qui hic est `ille', quod sit bonum ibi, de qua n. 2811; et a significatione `populi' quod sint vera, de qua n. 1259, 1260, 2928, 3295, 3581; ita `populus qui cum illo' sunt vera illius boni;
