Potts(1905-1910) 6356

6356. For in their anger they slew a man. That this signifies that they utterly averted themselves, and in their turning away extinguished faith, is evident from the signification of "anger," as being a receding from charity, and a turning away (see n. 357, 5034, 5798); from the signification of "slaying" as being to extinguish; and from the signification of "man" [vir] as being the truth of faith (n. 3134, 3309, 3459, 4823).

Elliott(1983-1999) 6356

6356. 'For in their anger they killed a man' means that they felt utterly averse, and having that feeling they annihilated faith. This is clear from the meaning of 'anger' as a departure from charity and an aversion, dealt with in 357, 5034, 5798; from the meaning of 'killing' as annihilating; and from the meaning of 'a man' as the truth of faith, dealt with in 3134, 3309, 3459, 4823.
