Potts(1905-1910) 8350

8350. Therefore he called the name thereof Marah. That this signifies the state and quality of this temptation, is evident from the fact that the names which are given to things treated of in the Word comprehend the quality and state of the thing that is being treated of (see n. 2643, 3422, 4298, 4442). Here therefore "Marah" signifies the quality and state of the temptation which is treated of in these verses. Moreover "Marah" means "bitter."

Elliott(1983-1999) 8350

8350. 'Therefore he called the name of it Marah' means the state and essential nature of that temptation. This is clear from the consideration that the names which are given to matters dealt with in the Word each encapsulate the essential nature and the state of the matter to which they refer, 2643, 3422, 4298, 4442. At this point therefore 'Marah' means the essential nature and the state of the temptation dealt with in these verses, as well as [literally] meaning bitter.

Latin(1748-1756) 8350

@1 indebantur$ @2 i nomen$
