  8813.“有响声、闪电”表启示发生所在的一种神性状态。这从“响声”和“闪电”的含义清楚可知:“响声”,就是雷声,是指神的真理;“闪电”是指这些真理所拥有的红光和光辉,因为神之真理因来自天堂太阳的光之火焰而变得光辉、发红。这就是为何“响声和闪电”表示启示发生所在的一种神性状态;表示一种神性状态是因着它们从天空降下这一事实,表示启示是因着“响声”和“闪电”表示神之真理这一事实。“响声”是天空中的闪电的产物,它表示神之真理(参看7573节);“闪电”表示它们发出的亮光,这亮光击中了人的内眼,光照了那些处于源自良善的真理之人,迷惑了那些沉浸于邪恶所生的虚假之人;这一切从圣言中提及“闪电”的经文明显看出来,如诗篇:
  云中滴下水来,天空发出响声,你的箭也射出。你的雷声在旋风中,闪电照亮世界,大地战抖震动。(诗篇77:1718
  此处“雷声”表示神之真理(7573节);“闪电”表示它的光辉;“世界或大地”表示教会;因此,“闪电照亮世界或大地”表示神之真理对教会的光照。
  类似事物同样出现在诗篇:
  祂的闪电光照世界,大地看见便惧怕。诸山在耶和华面前如蜡熔化。(诗篇97:45
  又:
  耶和华在天上、在地上、在海中、在一切的深渊,都随自己的意旨而行。祂使雾气从地极上腾,为雨造闪电。(诗篇135:6-7;耶利米书10:1351:16
  “为雨(所造的)闪电”表示从天堂而降的真理的光辉。启示录:
  有闪电、响声、雷轰。(启示录11:1916:18
  “响声、闪电、雷轰”表示光照善人,惊吓恶人的神之真理。
  以西结书:
  至于四活物(就是基路伯)的形状,就如烧着的火炭,又如火把的形状。火在四活物中间来回走动,甚至有火的光辉,从火中发出闪电。活物来回奔跑,好像闪电的形状。(以西结书1:13-14
  此处“火”表示爱之良善,“从火中发出的闪电”表示源于那良善的神之真理。主的神性治理,也就是从主的神性良善发出的神之真理在此被描述为“基路伯”。
  但以理书:
  看哪,有一人身穿细麻衣,腰束乌法的黄金带,他身体如他施(希伯来语为一种宝石,可能是绿宝石),面貌如闪电的形状,眼目如火把。(但以理书10:5-6
  “面貌如闪电的形状”表示对真理的爱,因为爱所发出的真理带有从火冒出的一种火焰,这火焰就是“闪电”。
  撒迦利亚书:
  耶和华必显现在他们以上,祂的箭必射出像闪电。主耶和华必吹角,乘南方的旋风而行。(撒迦利亚书9:14
  “必射出像闪电的箭”表示射入并穿透的神之真理,“箭”是指来自教义的真理(参看26862709节);因此,“来自耶和华的箭”是指来自神的真理。
  那鸿书:
  剑的亮光,枪矛的闪电,被杀的甚多。(那鸿书3:3
  申命记:

8813. That there were voices and lightnings. That this signifies a Divine state which was revelation, is evident from the signification of "voices" which are sounds of thunders, as being truths Divine; and from the signification of "lightnings," as being the ruddy glow and brightness of these truths, for truths Divine are bright and glowing from the flame of the light that is from the sun of heaven. Hence it is that by "voices and lightnings" is signified a Divine state in which is revelation; a Divine state, by the descent of such things from heaven; and revelation, by the voices and lightnings being truths Divine. That by "voices" which are of thunders from heaven are signified truths Divine, see n. 7573; and that "lightnings" denote the brightnesses from them which strike upon the internal sight of man, enlightening those who are in truth from good, and confounding those who are in falsity from evil, is evident from passages in the Word where "lightnings" are mentioned, as in David:

The clouds dripped waters, the skies gave forth a voice, and Thine arrows went abroad, the voice of Thy thunder into the world, the lightnings enlightened the world, the earth shook and trembled (Ps. 77:17, 18);

where "the voice of thunder" denotes truth Divine (n. 7573); "lightnings" denote its brightness; and "the world," the church; consequently "the lightnings enlightened the world" denotes the enlightening of the church by truth Divine. [2] In like manner in the same:

His lightnings enlightened the world, the earth shall see and shall fear, the mountains shall melt like wax before Jehovah (Ps. 97:4, 5). What Jehovah willeth, He doeth in the heavens and in earth, in the seas and in all abysses, who maketh the vapors to ascend from the extremity of the earth, He maketh lightnings for the rain (Ps. 135:6-7; Jer. 10:13; 51:16);

where "lightnings for the rain" denotes the brightness of the truth that comes down from heaven. In John:

There were lightning, voices, and thunders (Rev. 11:19; 16:18);

where "voices, lightnings, and thunders" denote truths Divine which enlighten the good and terrify the evil. [3] In Ezekiel:

The appearance of the living creatures (which were cherubs) was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches, and it went along among the living creatures, so that there was the brightness of fire, and out of the fire went forth lightning. And the living creatures were running and returning according to the appearance of lightning (Ezek. 1:13-14);

where "fire" denotes the good of love, and "lightning going forth out of the fire," the truth Divine therefrom. The Divine Providence of the Lord, which is truth Divine proceeding from the Divine good of the Lord, is here described by the "cherubs." [4] In Daniel:

Behold one clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with gold of Uphaz, and his body was like a tarshish, his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as torches of fire (Dan. 10:5-6). "The face as the appearance of lightning" denotes the love of truth, because the truth which is from love bears with it a flaming from fire, which flaming is "lightning." [5] In Zechariah:

Jehovah shall appear over them, and His arrow shall go forth as the lightning; and the Lord Jehovih shall sound with the trumpet, and shall advance in whirlwinds of the south (Zech. 9:14). "The arrow which shall go forth as the lightning" denotes truth Divine which reproves and penetrates. That "an arrow" denotes the truth of doctrine, see n. 2686, 2709; thus "an arrow from Jehovah" denotes truth Divine. [6] In Nahum:

The brightness of a sword, the lightning of a spear, and a multitude of slain (Nah. 3:3). In Moses:

I will sharpen the lightning of My sword (Deut. 32:41);

denoting the penetration of truth Divine with the evil; "sword" denotes truth fighting (n. 2799, 8294); and "lightning" the brightness of it which strikes upon the intellectual and deprives it of the faculty of seeing truth: in like manner in Ezekiel 21:20-32. From all this it is also evident that by "lightning" is meant truth Divine, as in Matthew 28:3, and in Luke 17:24.

8813. 'That there were voices and lightnings' means a Divine state in which revelation took place. This is clear from the meaning of 'voices', which are the sounds made by claps of thunder, as God's truths; and from the meaning of 'lightnings' as the radiance and brilliance which those truths possess, for God's truths are made brilliant and radiant by the fiery brightness of light that shines from the sun of heaven. This is why 'voices and lightnings' means a Divine state in which revelation takes place, a Divine state being meant by the fact that they come down out of the sky, and revelation by the fact that 'voices' and 'lightnings' mean God's truths. For the meaning of 'voices', which are the products of lightning from the sky, as God's truths, see 7573; and the fact that 'lightnings' means brilliant flashes from them which strike a person's inward eye, enlightening those guided by truth derived from good and bewildering those steeped in falsity arising from evil, is clear from places in the Word where 'lightnings' are mentioned, as in David,

Here 'the voice of thunder' stands for God's truth, 7573, 'lightnings' for its brilliance, and 'the earth' for the Church. Consequently ' the lightnings lit up the earth' stands for the enlightenment of the Church by God's truth.

[2] Something similar occurs in the same author,

His lightnings will enlighten the earth, the earth will see and fear; the mountains will melt like wax before Jehovah. Ps 97:4, 5.

In the same author,

What Jehovah wills He does in heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all deep places. He causes the vapours to go up from the ends of the earth, He makes lightnings for the rain. Ps 135:6, 7; Jer 10:13; 51:16.

'Lightnings for the rain' stands for the brightness of the truth coming down from heaven. In John,

There were lightnings, voices, and thunders. Rev 11:19; 16:18.

'Voices, lightnings, and thunders' stands for God's truths which enlighten the good and terrify the evil.

[3] In Ezekiel,

The appearance of the living creatures (who were cherubs) was like burning coals of fire, Like the appearance of lamps. It was moving between the living creatures, so that there was the brightness of fire, and out of the fire went forth lightning. And the living creatures ran forth and back, in appearance like a flash of lightning. Ezek 1:13, 14.

Here 'fire' stands for the good of love, and 'out of the fire went forth lightning' for God's truth derived from that good. The Lord's Divine providence, which is God's truth emanating from the Lord's Divine Good, is described here by 'the cherubs'.

[4] In Daniel,

behold, one clothed in linen whose loins were girded with gold of Uphaz, and his body was like tarshish;b his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like fiery torches. Dan 10:5, 6.

'A face like the appearance of lightning' stands for the love of truth; for truth radiated by love carries with it a characteristic, meant by 'lightning', which is like a flame flashing from fire.

[5] In Zechariah,

Jehovah will appear over them, and His arrow will go forth like lightning; and the Lord Jehovih will sound a blast on the trumpet, and move forward in storms of the south. Zech 9:14.

'The arrow which will go forth like lightning' stands for God's truth which strikes and penetrates, 'an arrow' being truth coming from doctrine, see 2686, 709, so that 'an arrow from Jehovah' is truth coming from God.

[6] In Nahum,

The glitter of the sword, the lightning-flash of the spear,c and the multitude of the slain. Nahum 3:3

In Moses,

I will sharpen My flashing swordd. Deut 32:41.

This stands for the penetration of God's truth as experienced by the evil, 'sword' standing for truth engaged in conflict, 2799, 8294, and 'lightning' for its brightness which strikes the understanding and deprives it of the ability to see truth. Something similar occurs in Ezekiel 21:15, 28. From all this it is also evident that 'lightning' is used to mean God's truth in Matthew 28:3, and Luke 17:24.
