Apocalypse Explained (Tansley translation 1923) 1137

1137. Verse 11. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her because no one buyeth their merchandise any more.

"And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her," signifies the mourning and grief of those who acquire the things pertaining to that religion, in order to gain honours and wealth; "because no one buyeth their merchandise any more," signifies that their evils and falsities, by which they make gain, are no longer received.

1137. Verse 11. And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her because no one buyeth their merchandise anymore.

11. "And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her," signifies the mourning and grief of those who acquire the things pertaining to that religious persuasion in order to gain honor and wealth (n. 1138); "because no one buyeth their merchandise anymore," signifies that their evils and falsities by which they make gain are no more received (n. 1139).

"Et mercatores terrae flebunt et lugebunt super illa, quod merces eorum nemo emat amplius."

11. "Et mercatores terrae flebunt et lugebunt super illa", significat luctum et dolorem illorum qui illa quae sunt religiosi istius sibi comparant, ut lucrentur honores et opes [n. 1138] ; "quod merces eorum nemo emat amplius", significat quod illorum mala et falsa, per quae illis lucra sunt, non magis recipiantur [n. 1139] .
