788. Verse 4. And they worshipped the dragon, which gave power unto the beast, and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
"And they worshipped the dragon, which gave power unto the beast," signifies the acknowledgment of salvation and justification by faith alone, strengthened and established by those modes of conjunction that were devised, and received therefrom in doctrine; "and they worshipped the beast," signifies acknowledgment of the reasonings by which discordance with the Word is apparently removed; "saying, Who is like unto the beast?" signifies confession that nothing is truer. "Who is able to make war with him?" signifies that it cannot be assaulted by any means.
788. Verse 4 (789 "and they worshipped the beast," signifies the acknowledgment of the reasonings by which the disagreement with the Word is seemingly cleared away n. 790; "saying, Who is like unto the beast?" signifies the confession that nothing is more true (n. 791); "who is able to make war with him?" signifies that it can in no wise be impugned (n. 792).

"Et adoraverunt draconem qui dedit potestatem bestiae, et adoraverunt bestiam, dicentes, Quis similis est bestiae? quis potest pugnare cum ea?"
4. "Et adoraverunt draconem, qui dedit potestatem bestiae", significat agnitionem salvationis et justificatonis per solam fidem, firmatam et corroboratam per inventos illos conjunctionis modos, et inde receptam in doctrina [n. 789] ; "et adoraverunt bestiam", significat agnitionem ratiociniorum, per quae discordantia cum Verbo apparenter summota est [n. 790] ; dicentes, Quis similis est bestiae?" significat confessionem quod nihil verius [n. 791] ; "quis potest pugnare cum ea?" significat quod nullatenus impugnari posset [n. 792] .
