105. The Planet Venus and Its Spirits and Inhabitants
As spirits and angels conceive of it, the planet Venus seems to be on the left, a little toward the back, not that far from our planet. I say “as spirits conceive of it” because neither the sun of our world nor any planet is visible to any spirit. Rather, spirits have only a concept of the existence of these things. Within the limits of their concepts concerning them, the sun of our world appears behind their backs as something dark, and the planets are not wandering as they do in our world but keep their places constantly (see 42 above). 1

Spirits and angels think of the planet Venus as to be seen on the left, a little further back and at some distance from our world. We say that the spirits think of it like this, because the sun of the solar system is not visible to any spirit, nor is any planet. Spirits simply have an idea of their existence. This idea alone makes them think of the sun of the solar system as something jet-black behind them, and the planets not wandering as in the solar system, but occupying fixed positions (see 42 above).
105. THE EARTH OR PLANET VENUS, ITS SPIRITS AND INHABITANTS.
The planet Venus, in the idea of spirits and angels, appears to the left a little backwards, at some distance from our earth. It is said, in the idea of spirits, because neither the sun of this world, nor any planet, appears to any spirit; but spirits have only an idea that they exist. It is in consequence of such idea that the sun of this world is presented behind as something quite dark, and the planets not movable as in the world, but remaining constantly in their several places; see above (n. 42).
