572、必须注意到，当来自天堂的热流入时，地狱之火或热就变成严寒。那时，地狱里的人便瑟瑟发抖，仿佛是高烧中的寒颤，痛彻肺腑。这是因为他们直接与上帝对立；而且，天堂之热，也就是神性之爱，熄灭了地狱之热，也就是自我之爱，连同他们的生命之火一道被熄灭。这就是如此寒冷、继而颤抖和痛苦的原由。这一切还伴随着一片漆黑以及由此产生的痴迷和失明。但这种情形很少发生，只有在需要平息失控的叛乱时才会发生。

572. 必须牢记的是, 当热从天堂流入时, 这地狱之火或热就变成严寒. 那时, 地狱里的人便冻得瑟瑟发抖, 仿佛发烧发冷, 并从内在感到痛苦. 这是因为他们与神性完全对立; 并且天堂之热, 也就是神性之爱, 熄灭了地狱之热, 也就是自我之爱, 其生命之火连同它一道被熄灭. 这就是造成寒冷, 发抖和痛苦的原由. 这一切还伴随着黑暗, 愚蠢和混乱. 不过, 这种情形并不常见, 只在叛乱升级, 即将失控, 需要平息时才会发生.

572. 而且我們要知道, 當天國的熱流入時, 地獄的熱將變為酷寒。彼時, 地獄的人勢必凍得發抖, 痛入骨髓。因為他們與上帝全然對立。當天國的熱能(即聖仁), 熄滅地獄的熱能(即我欲)時, 其生命之火也就隨之熄滅了。正因如此, 他們會感到寒冷和痛苦。與此同時, 地獄將陷入一片黑暗和混亂。不過這情形並不常見, 只在地獄發生騷亂且行將失控時才有必要。
572. We should bear in mind that this hellish fire or heat changes into an intense cold when warmth flows in from heaven. Then the people there shiver as though they had feverish chills and are in inner torment. This is because of their absolute opposition to the Divine; and heaven's warmth, which is divine love, snuffs out the warmth of hell, which is love for oneself, and along with it the very fire of their life. This is what causes the cold, the shivering, and the pain. It also then brings about darkness there, and folly and confusion.
This does not happen very often, though; only when there is need to quell rebellions that are getting out of hand.

It must be noted that this infernal fire or heat is changed into intense cold when heat from heaven inflows; and then those who are in it shiver like those seized with a chilling fever, and are also inwardly distressed; and for the reason that they are in direct opposition to the Divine; and the heat of heaven, which is Divine love, extinguishes the heat of hell, which is the love of self, and with it the fire of their life; and this is the cause of such cold and consequent shivering and distress. This is accompanied by thick darkness and by infatuation therefrom and blindness. But this rarely happens, and only when outbreaks that have increased beyond measure need to be repressed.
