581、主之所以允许地狱里有折磨，是因为没有任何其它的方法能抑制和制伏邪恶。害怕惩罚是抑制和制伏邪恶、囚禁地狱暴徒的唯一方法，没有别的办法，因为若没有对惩罚和折磨的恐惧，邪恶必要疯狂的爆发，摧毁一切，就像世上一个既没有法律也没有惩罚的国家一样。

Fear of punishment is the only means of controlling and taming evils and keeping the hellish mob in restraints. There is no other way, for if it were not for the fear of punishment and torture, evil would plunge into rage and destroy everything, as would happen in a kingdom on earth where there was neither law nor punishment.
