Life (Dole translation 2014) 85

85. I noted in 81 above that the evil of theft infects us more deeply than some other evils because it is united with guile and trickery, and guile and trickery work their way into our spiritual mind where our thinking with understanding takes place; so now I need to say something about the human mind. On the human mind being our understanding together with our will, see 43 above.

Doctrine of Life (Rogers translation 2014) 85

85. In no. 81 above we said that the evil of stealing enters more deeply into a person than any other evil, because it is accompanied by guile and deceit, and guile and deceit insinuate themselves even into a person’s spiritual mind, which is the seat of his thinking with understanding. Therefore we must now say something about the human mind. That the human mind consists of both intellect and will may be seen in no. 43 above.

Doctrine of Life (Dick translation 1954) 85

85. It was said above, No. 81, that the evil of theft enters more deeply into man than any other evil, because it is united with cunning and deceit; and cunning and deceit insinuate themselves even into the spiritual mind of man, which is the seat of thought combined with understanding. Something therefore will now be said concerning the mind of man. That his understanding and will together constitute the mind of man, may be seen above, No. 43.

Doctrine of Life (Potts translation 1904) 85

85. It has been said above (n. 81), that the evil of theft enters more deeply into a man than any other evil because it is conjoined with cunning and deceit, and that cunning and deceit insinuate themselves even into the spiritual mind of man in which is his thought with understanding. Something shall therefore now be said about the mind of man. (That the mind of man is his understanding and will together, see above, n. 43.)

Doctrina Vitae pro Nova Hierosolyma 85 (original Latin 1763)
