The Lord (Dole translation 2014) 38

38. We can see from the following passages that the Lord is called “Jehovah”:

Thus says Jehovah, who is your Creator, O Jacob, and your Maker, O Israel: “I have redeemed you. I am Jehovah your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” (Isaiah 43:1, 3)

[Thus says Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and Israel’s Maker... Surely you are a hidden God, O God of Israel, the Savior.] (Isaiah 45:11, 15)

... so that all flesh may know that I, Jehovah, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. (Isaiah 49:26)

... so that you may know that I, Jehovah, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Powerful One of Jacob. (Isaiah 60:16)

... Jehovah, the one who formed you from the womb. (Isaiah 49:5)

... Jehovah, my rock and my Redeemer. (Psalms 19:14)

Thus says Jehovah your Maker and the one who formed you from the womb. Thus says Jehovah, the King of Israel, and Israel’s Redeemer, Jehovah Sabaoth. (Isaiah 44:2, 6)

As for our Redeemer, Jehovah Sabaoth is his name, the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 47:4)

“With everlasting compassion I will have mercy [on you],” says Jehovah, your Redeemer. (Isaiah 54:8)

Their Redeemer is strong; Jehovah is his name. (Jeremiah 50:34)

Jehovah God is my rock, my fortress, the horn of my salvation, my Savior. (2 Samuel 22:2-3)

Thus says Jehovah your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 43:14; 48:17)

Thus says Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, Israel’s Holy One: “Monarchs will see...” (Isaiah 49:7)

I am Jehovah, and there is no Savior other than me. (Isaiah 43:11)

Am I not Jehovah? And there is no [God] other than me; and there is no Savior other than me. Look to me so that you may be saved, all you ends of the earth. (Isaiah 45:21-22)

I am Jehovah your God; there is no Savior other than me. (Hosea 13:4)

You have redeemed me, O Jehovah of truth. (Psalms 31:5)

Let Israel hope in Jehovah, for with Jehovah there is mercy; with him there is abundant redemption. He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities. (Psalms 130:7-8)

Jehovah Sabaoth is his name, and your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. He will be called the God of the whole earth. (Isaiah 54:5)

In these passages, Jehovah is called Redeemer and Savior; and since the Lord alone is Redeemer and Savior, it is he who is meant by “Jehovah.”

We can also see that the Lord is Jehovah-that is, that Jehovah is the Lord-from the following passages.

A shoot [will go forth] from the trunk of Jesse, and a sprout from its roots will bear fruit. The spirit of Jehovah will rest upon him. (Isaiah 11:1-2)

It will be said on that day, “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him to set us free. [This is] Jehovah; we have waited for him. Let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.” (Isaiah 25:9)

A voice of someone in the wilderness crying out, “Prepare a pathway for Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.” The glory of Jehovah will be revealed, and all flesh will see it. Behold, the Lord Jehovih is coming in strength, and his arm will rule for him. (Isaiah 40:3, 5, 10)

I am Jehovah. I will make you a covenant for the people, a light for the nations. I am Jehovah. This is my name, and I will not give my glory to another. (Isaiah 42:6-8)

Behold, the days [are coming] when I will raise up for David a righteous branch who will rule as king, and prosper, and bring about judgment and justice on earth. And this is his name: they will call him “Jehovah our Righteousness.” (Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15-16)

As for you, Bethlehem Ephrata, one will come forth from you for me who will become the ruler in Israel. He will stand firm and feed [his flock] in the strength of Jehovah. (Micah 5:2, 4)

A Child has been born to us; a Son has been given to us. Leadership is upon his shoulder; and his name will be called God, Hero, Father of Eternity, on the throne of David, to establish and found it in judgment and in justice, from now on, even to eternity. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Jehovah will go forth and fight against the nations, and his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem. (Zechariah 14:3-4)

Lift your heads, gates, and be raised up, doors of the world, so that the King of Glory may come in! Who is this King of Glory? Jehovah, strong and heroic, Jehovah, a hero in war. (Psalms 24:7-10)

On that day Jehovah Sabaoth will become an ornate crown and a beautiful diadem for the remnant of his people. (Isaiah 28:5)

I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great day of Jehovah comes. (Malachi 4:5)

There are other passages as well where it says that the day of Jehovah is great and near, like Ezekiel 30:3; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18, 20; and Zephaniah 1:7, 14-15, 18.

Doctrine of the Lord (Rogers translation 2014) 38

38. The Lord is called Jehovah. This is apparent from the following:

...thus said Jehovah, your Creator, O Jacob, and your Maker, O Israel: “...for I have redeemed you.... ...I am Jehovah your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” (Isaiah 43:1, 3)

I am Jehovah, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King. (Isaiah 43:15)

Thus said Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker.... (Isaiah 45:11, cf. 45:15)

...that all flesh may know that I, Jehovah, am your Savior, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. (Isaiah 49:26)

...that you may know that I, Jehovah, am your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. (Isaiah 60:16)

...Jehovah...your Maker from the womb.... (Isaiah 49:5)

...O Jehovah, my rock, and my Redeemer! (Psalms 19:14)

Thus said Jehovah, your Maker, and your Former from the womb.... Thus said Jehovah, the King of Israel, and its Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts.... (Isaiah 44:2, 6)

Our Redeemer, Jehovah of Hosts is His name, the Holy One of Israel. (Isaiah 47:4)

“With everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you.” Thus said Jehovah, your Redeemer. (Isaiah 54:8)

Their Redeemer is strong; Jehovah of Hosts is His name. (Jeremiah 50:34)

Jehovah (God) is my rock, my fortress, and...the horn of my salvation..., my Savior.... (2 Samuel 22:2-3)

...said Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.... (Isaiah 43:14, 48:17)

Thus said Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, His Holy One...: “Kings shall see....” (Isaiah 49:7)

I...am Jehovah, and besides Me there is no Savior. (Isaiah 43:11)

Have not I, Jehovah? And there is no other God besides Me, (and)...a Savior, there is none besides Me. Look to Me, that you may be saved, all you ends of the earth! (Isaiah 45:21-22)

I am Jehovah your God..., and...there is no Savior besides Me. (Hosea 13:4)

You have redeemed me, O Jehovah, God of truth. (Psalms 31:5)

Let Israel hope in Jehovah; for with Jehovah there is mercy, ...with Him is abundant redemption. He shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities. (Psalms 130:7-8)

...Jehovah of Hosts is His name, and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He shall be called God of the whole earth. (Isaiah 54:5)

In these passages Jehovah is called Redeemer and Savior, and because the Lord alone is the Redeemer and Savior, it is the Lord who is meant by Jehovah.

[2] That the Lord is Jehovah, or in other words, that Jehovah is the Lord, is apparent also from the following:

A Rod shall come forth from the stem of Jesse, and an Offshoot out of his roots shall bear fruit. The Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him.... (Isaiah 11:1-2)

It will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him to save us. This is Jehovah, for whom we have waited; we will rejoice and be glad in His salvation.” (Isaiah 25:9)

The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of Jehovah; make smoothe in the desert a highway for our God.... (For) the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it....” Behold, the Lord Jehovih is coming in strength, and His arm shall rule for Him. (Isaiah 40:3, 5, 10)

I, Jehovah...will...give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles.... I am Jehovah, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another.... (Isaiah 42:6-8)

Behold, the days are coming...when I will raise to David a righteous offshoot, (who) shall reign as king and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.... And this is His name by which they will call Him: Jehovah Our Righteousness. (Jeremiah 23:5-6, cf. 33:15-16)

You, Bethlehem Ephrathah..., out of you shall come forth to Me One to be Ruler in Israel.... He shall stand and give pasture in the strength of Jehovah.... (Micah 5:2, 4)

...unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called...God, Hero, Father of Eternity...., upon the throne of David..., to establish it and found it with judgment and justice, from that time on and even to eternity. (Isaiah 9:6-7)

Jehovah will go forth and fight against the nations.... And...His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem.... (Zechariah 14:3-4)

Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you doors of the world, that the King of glory may come in! Who is this King of glory? Jehovah strong and a hero, Jehovah a hero of war. (Psalms 24:7-10)

In that day Jehovah of Hosts will become a crown of adornment and a miter of beauty to the remnant of His people. (Isaiah 28:5)

...I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great...day of Jehovah. (Malachi 4:5)

And so on elsewhere in places that mention the great and coming day of Jehovah, such as Ezekiel 30:3, Joel 2:11, Amos 5:18, 20, Zephaniah 1:7, 14-15, 18.

Doctrine of the Lord (Dick translation 1954) 38

38. 1. THE LORD IS CALLED JEHOVAH. This is evident from the following passages:

Thus saith Jehovah that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel ... for I have redeemed thee.

I am Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour. Isaiah 43:1, 3.

I am Jehovah, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel.

... The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker. 43:15; 45:11.

And all flesh shall know that I Jehovah am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. 49:26.

And thou shalt know that I Jehovah am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. 60:16 Jehovah that formed thee from the womb. Isaiah 49:5.

Jehovah my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14.

Thus saith Jehovah the King of Israel, and his Redeemer Jehovah Zebaoth. Isaiah 44:2, 6.

As for our Redeemer, Jehovah Zebaoth is His name, the Holy One of Israel. 47:4.

With everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith Jehovah thy Redeemer. 54:8.

Their Redeemer is strong; Jehovah [Zebaoth] is His name. Jeremiah 50:34.

Jehovah God is my Rock and my fortress.

... The horn of my salvation ... my Saviour. 2 Samuel 22:2-3.

Thus saith Jehovah, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 43:14; 48:17.

Thus saith Jehovah, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One ... kings shall see. Isaiah 49:7.

I am Jehovah; and besides me there is no Saviour. Isaiah 43:11.

Am not I Jehovah? there is none besides me and there is no Saviour besides me.

Look unto me and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. Isaiah 45:21-22.

I am Jehovah thy God ... and there is no Saviour besides me. Hosea 13:4.

Thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah [God] of truth. Psalm 31:5.

Let Israel hope in Jehovah: for with Jehovah there is mercy, and with Him there is plenteous redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. Psalm 130:7-8.

Jehovah Zebaoth is His name; and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall He be called. Isaiah 54:5.

In these passages Jehovah is called Redeemer and Saviour; and as the Lord is the Only Redeemer and Saviour, it is He who is meant by Jehovah.

It is also manifest from the following passages that the Lord is Jehovah, that is, that Jehovah is the Lord:

[There shall come forth] a Rod out of the stem of Jesse, and out of his roots a Branch shall bear fruit.

And the spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him. Isaiah 11:1-2.

It shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God: we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is Jehovah; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation. Isaiah 25:9.

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

And the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together ...

Behold, the Lord Jehovih will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him. Isaiah 40:3, 5, 10.

I Jehovah ... will give thee for a covenant to the people, for a light of the Gentiles.

I am Jehovah; that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another. Isaiah 42:6, 8.

Behold, the days come that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.

... And this is His name whereby He shall be called, Jehovah our Righteousness. Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15-16.

Thou, Bethlehem Ephratah ... out of thee shall He come forth to me that is to be Ruler in Israel ...

He shall stand and feed in the strength of Jehovah. Micah 5:2, 4.

Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given and the government shall be upon His shoulder and His name shall be called ... the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father ... upon the throne of David ... to establish it and found it in judgment and in righteousness from henceforth even for ever. Isaiah 9:6-7.

Then shall Jehovah go forth, and fight against those nations ...

And His feet shall stand ... upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem. Zechariah 14:3-4.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye (A.V. everlasting) doors of the world; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? Jehovah strong and mighty, Jehovah mighty in battle. Psalm 24:7-10. In that day shall Jehovah Zebaoth be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of His people. Isaiah 28:5.

I will send you Elijah the prophet before the Coming of the great ... day of Jehovah. Malachi 4:5; besides other passages where mention is made of the day of Jehovah, which is said to be great and near; as Ezekiel 30:3; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18, 20; Zephaniah 1:7, 14-15, 18.

Doctrine of the Lord (Potts translation 1904) 38

38. That the Lord is called "Jehovah," is evident from these passages:

Thus saith Jehovah thy Creator, O Jacob, and thy Former, O Israel, Fear not, for I have redeemed thee. I am Jehovah thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Savior (Isaiah 43:1, 43:3).

I am Jehovah your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King (verse 43:15).

The Holy One of Israel, and his Former, O God of Israel, the Savior (Isaiah 45:11, 45:15).

That all flesh may know that I Jehovah am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob (Isaiah 49:26).

That thou mayest know that I Jehovah am thy Savior and thy Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob (Isaiah 60:16).

Jehovah thy Former from the womb (Isaiah 49:5).

Jehovah my Rock, and my Redeemer (Psalm 19:14).

Thus saith Jehovah thy Maker and Former from the womb. Thus saith Jehovah the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Jehovah of Armies (Isaiah 44:2, 44:6).

As for our Redeemer, Jehovah of Armies is His name, the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 47:4).

With the mercy of eternity will I have mercy on thee, saith Jehovah thy Redeemer (Isaiah 54:8).

Their Redeemer is strong, Jehovah of Armies is His name (Jeremiah 50:34).

Jehovah God, my Rock, my fortress, the horn of my salvation, my Savior (2 Samuel 22:2-3).

Thus saith Jehovah your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 43:14; 48:17).

Thus saith Jehovah the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, Kings shall see (Isaiah 49:7).

I am Jehovah, and besides Me there is no Savior (Isaiah 43:11).

Am not I Jehovah, and there is none besides Me, and there is no Savior besides Me. Look unto Me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth (Isaiah 45:21-22).

I am Jehovah thy God, and there is no Savior besides Me (Hosea 13:4).

Thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah God of truth (Psalm 31:5).

Let Israel hope in Jehovah, for with Jehovah there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption, and He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities (Psalm 130:7-8).

Jehovah of Armies is His name, and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel, the God of the whole earth shall He be called (Isaiah 54:5).

In these passages Jehovah is called the "Redeemer and Savior;" and as the Lord alone is the Redeemer and Savior, it is He who is meant by "Jehovah." That the Lord is Jehovah, that is, that Jehovah is the Lord, is evident also from the following passages:

There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a shoot out of his roots shall bear fruit, and the Spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon Him (Isaiah 11:1-2).

It shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God we have waited for Him, and He will save us; this is Jehovah, we have waited for Him; we will rejoice and be glad in His salvation (Isaiah 25:9).

The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make plain in the solitude a pathway for our God. For the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it. Behold the Lord Jehovih shall come in strength, and His arm shall rule for Him (Isaiah 40:3, 40:5, 40:10).

I Jehovah will give thee for a covenant to the people, for a light of the nations. I am Jehovah, that is My name, and My glory will I not give to another (Isaiah 42:6, 42:8).

Behold the days come that I will raise unto David a righteous offshoot, who shall reign a King, and shall prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth; and this is His name whereby He shall be called, Jehovah our righteousness (Jeremiah 23:5-6; 33:15-16).

Thou Bethlehem Ephratah, out of thee shall He go forth unto Me that shall be a Ruler in Israel; He shall stand and feed [His flock] in the strength of Jehovah (Micah 5:2, 5:4).

Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called God, Hero, the Father of eternity, upon the throne of David to establish and to found it in judgment and in justice, from henceforth and even to eternity (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Jehovah shall go forth and fight against the nations; and His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives before the faces of Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:3-4).

Lift up your heads, O ye gates and be ye lifted up, ye doors of the world, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? Jehovah strong and a Hero, Jehovah a Hero of war (Psalm 24:7-10).

In that day shall Jehovah of Armies be for a crown of ornament, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of His people (Isaiah 28:5).

I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great day of Jehovah (Malachi 4:5).

Not to mention other passages where mention is made of the great and near day of Jehovah as Ezekiel 30:3; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18, 5:20; Zephaniah 1:14-15, 1:18.

38. ((i.)) Quod Dominus dicatur Jehovah, patet ex his:-

"Dixit" Jehovah "Creator tuus, Jacob; et Formator tuus, Israel;... nam redemi te. ...Ego Jehovah Deus tuus, Sanctus Israelis Salvator tuus" (Esaiam 43:1, 3).

(Sic dixit Jehovah,) Sanctus Israelis, 1et Formator ejus (Esaiam 45:11, 15).

"Vox clamantis in deserto, Parate viam Jehovae, complanate in solitudine semitam Deo nostro. ...Revelabitur enim gloria Jehovae, et videbunt omnis caro. ...Ecce Dominus Jehovih in forti venit, et brachium Ipsius dominabitur Ipsi" (Esaiam 40:3, 5, 10).

"Ego Jehovah,... dabo Te in foedus populo, in luce gentium:...

Quis Hic Rex gloriae? Jehovah fortis et heros, Jehovah heros belli" (Psalm 24:7-10).

"In die illo erit Jehovah Zebaoth in coronam ornatus, et in cidarim decoris reliquiis populi sui" (Esaiam 28:5).

"Ego mittam vobis Eliam Prophetam, antequam venit dies Jehovae magnus" (Malachiam 3:23 [NCBSP: 4:5]).

Praeter alibi, ubi dicitur "dies Jehovae magnus et propinquus" (ut Ezechiel 30:3 4; Joel 2:11; Amos 5:18, 20; Zephaniam 1:7, 14-15, 18).
