The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Teachings (New Century Edition 2020) 228

228. The Word tells us that we live after death. It says, for example, that God is not the God of the dead but of the living (Matthew 22:32); that Lazarus was carried up into heaven after his death, but the rich man was cast down into hell (Luke 16:22, 23, and following); that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are in heaven (Matthew 8:11; 22:31, 32; Luke 20:37, 38); and that Jesus said to the thief, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).

The Heavenly City (Woofenden translation 1993) 228

228. The Bible teaches that we live after death. For example: “God is not a God of dead people, but of living people” (Matthew 22:31). Lazarus was carried up to heaven when he died, but the rich man was thrown down into hell (Luke 16:22 {ign17}). Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are there (Matthew 8:11; 22:31-32; Luke 20:37-38). Jesus said to the robber, “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).

The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Doctrine (Chadwick translation 1990) 228

228. The Word teaches that people live after death, as for example, that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (Matthew 22:32); that Lazarus after death was taken up into heaven, but the rich man was cast into hell (Luke 16:22-23); that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are there (Matthew 8:11; 22:31-32; Luke 20:37-38); that Jesus said to the thief, Today you will be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43).

The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Doctrine (Tafel translation 1911) 228

228. That a man lives after death, is taught in the Word; as for instance, that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (Matthew 22:31); that Lazarus after death was carried into heaven, but the rich man was cast into hell (Luke 16:22-23, et seq.); that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, are in heaven (Matthew 8:11; 22:31-32; Luke 20:37-38); and that Jesus said to the robber, To-day shalt thou be with Me in paradise (Luke 23:43).

The New Jerusalem and its Heavenly Doctrine (Whitehead translation 1892) 228

228. That man lives after death, the Word teaches; as that:

God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (Matt. 22:31).

Lazarus after death was carried into heaven, but the rich man was cast into hell (Luke 16:22-23 seq.).

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are there (Matt. 8:11; 22:31, 32; Luke 20:37, 38).

Jesus said to the robber, Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise (Luke 23:43).

De Nova Hierosolyma et ejus Doctrina Caelesti 228 (original Latin 1758)

228. Quod homo post mortem vivat, docet Verbum; ut,

Quod Deus non sit mortuorum Deus, sed viventium (Matthaeus 22:31);

Quod Lazarus post mortem in caelum sublatus sit, dives autem conjectus in infernum (Lucas 16:22-23 seq.);

Quod Abrahamus, Isacus et Jacobus ibi sint (Matthaeus 8:11, 22:31-32; Lucas 20:37-38);

Quod Jesus dixerit ad latronem, "Hodie Mecum eris in paradiso" (Lucas 23:43).
