Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 1385

1385. The spirit just spoken of [1377-1378] had been conducted that swamp in order view those miserable spirits' punishments in order choose one of them for himself. He chose be where the whales were, but he was not given what he wanted, for it was decreed by someone as a law in his case that he should not get what he wanted.

1385. That spirit of whom mention was made just above (nos. 1377-78) was brought to that lake, so that he might see the punishments of those miserable beings, and choose one for himself. He chose to be where the whales were, but his desire was not granted; for a decree, as it were, was pronounced by a certain one, that he should not receive what he desired.

1385. Spiritus iste, de quo mox prius [1377-1378], perductus erat ad stagnum istud, ut videret poenas miserabilium istorum, utque sibi eligeret unam 1

, elegit sibi ut esset ubi balaenae, sed quod cupiit, non ei concessum, nam quasi lex ejus pronuntiata a quodam, quod non acciperet quod cuperet.
