Portrayals in the other life, such as punishments of the miserable, certainly appear as fantasies, yet still they are actual because those suffering the punishments possess sensation, feel them, and are tormented, just as if they were in the body and were enduring them corporally. This is abundantly plain.
1390. THAT REPRESENTATIONS IN THE OTHER LIFE ARE ACTUAL IN THE WORLD
Representations in the other life, such as the punishments of the miserable, do indeed appear as phantasies, but still they are actual, for those who suffer punishment enjoy sensation; they feel them and are tormented, just as if they were in the body, and suffered them in the body. This is evident from many things.
