Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 1756

1756. Unless we have faith in the Lord, we are easily brought to believe that such visions and illusions are from heaven, when yet they are of the devil. For no one can tell them from true visions and from true miracles except those who are led by the Lord. Nowadays, however, such practices are forbidden, for those gangs are kept back, and not allowed to wander beyond the limits to which they are permitted to go. 1748, 28 March.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 1756

1756. Unless a man be in faith towards the Lord, he is easily induced to believe that such visions are from heaven, and the like, when yet they are of the devil, for they cannot be distinguished from true visions and true miracles, except by those who are led by the Lord; but at this day such things are forbidden, for these rabbles [of spirits] are held in bonds, and not permitted to rove beyond the limits which for certain reasons are assigned them. - 1748, March 28.

Experientiae Spirituales 1756 (original Latin 1748-1764)

1748, 28 Martius.
