2522. Some from that period who were with me at the time told me that they regarded such prophets as holy ones, and that almost all wanted to prophesy. So that spirit ruled them, as well as the things written prophetically, not understood by them, which they likewise adored-almost as poets adore the mystical writings of the ancients.
2522. Certain of that time who are now with me said that they esteemed such prophets as saints [holy], and that nearly all desired to prophesy, wherefore such a spirit ruled them. In like manner these things which were prophetically written they did not understand them, but similarly adored. It is very similar with the mystic things of the ancient poets.
2522. Dicebant mihi quidam ex eo tempore, qui mecum nunc, quod prophetas tales aestimarent ut sanctos, et quod cuperent fere omnes prophetare, quare talis spiritus eos regebat, sicut etiam ea quae prophetice scripta sunt, iis non intellecta, quae similiter adorabant; paene sicut poetae [adorant] veterum mystica.
