This shows that the mental imagery of spirits rests on material things pertaining to the ultimate plane of order, at the removal of which they do not know where they are, and disappear before they have fixed their mental scope on alien material things. The like is the case in regard to the Word of the Lord; thus the angels likewise, by means of spirits [rest upon material things].
3610. It hence appears that the ideas of spirits are terminated in material things, the ultimates of order, upon the removal of which they know not where they are, and disappear before they have fixed their ideas in other material objects. Thus also in regard to the Word of the Lord, and this in like manner with the angels [acting] through spirits.
3610. Exinde constat, quod ideae spirituum terminentur in materialibus, ultimi ordinis, quibus sublatis non sciunt ubinam sunt, et disparent, antequam in aliis materialibus fixerint ideas: ita in Verbo Domini, sic angeli per spiritus similiter.
