4049. About the cruel spirits beneath the buttocks
Under the buttocks is a place of the cruel, or a dreadful hell, where they attempt to stab each other with knives, and indeed, aim the knives into the breasts like furies, doing so each to the other in that place. But in the midst of the stroke of stabbing, the knives are always taken away. They are those who had harbored such hatred against their companions that they wished utterly to destroy them; so they have in the other life this kind of hell. 1748, 24 Nov.
On account of their many kinds of cruelty, it was said that this hell should not be opened, except slightly, so that I might see the nature of such deadly forms of hatred.
4049. CONCERNING THE CRUEL UNDER THE NATES.
There are lakes or a direful hell of the cruel under the nates, where they attempt to strike each other with knives, aiming the knives at the breasts like furies, everyone thus striving to murder every other one that is there; but the knives, at the very instant of giving the stroke, are continually taken away from them. These are such as [in the world] bore so violent a hatred against their fellows, that they desired utterly to destroy them. Thus in the other life this becomes their hell. - 1748, November 24. On account of their manifold cruelty, it was said that this hell should not be opened, except in a slight degree, to the end that I might see the nature of such mortal hatreds.
