Spiritual Experiences (Odhner and Nemitz translation 1998) 4206

4206. Evil punishes itself; and about permissions

It is evident from the order in which all thing are in heaven and in hell, spoken of elsewhere [2438-9, 2776], it is so established that every evil punishes itself, and thus that evil itself ought to erase itself. Such is the order, and this is called permission, which is nevertheless a universal law - just as it is also that mutual love rewards itself, and that it shall be done to us as we would do to another. 1749, 13 April.

Spiritual Experiences (Buss translation 1902) 4206

4206. THAT EVIL PUNISHES ITSELF; AND CONCERNING PERMISSION.

It appears from the order in which all things are in heaven and in hell, of which I have spoken elsewhere, that it is ordained that all evil shall punish itself and thus that evil itself shall tend to abolish itself. Such is order, and this is called permission, which nevertheless is a universal law; as also that mutual love shall reward itself and that it shall fare with everyone according to what he wills to another. - 1749, April 13.

Experientiae Spirituales 4206 (original Latin 1748-1764)

1749, 13 April.
