5084. The kind that do not bother about any doctrine therefore can justify whatever they do from the sense of a letter, both what is evil and what is false. A faith made of the sense of the letter alone is a faith of false conviction, which leads to nothing because they twist everything to what pleases them, and they are also concerned with things of the world and the body.
5084. Such as do not care for any doctrine, therefore, are able to confirm all things whatsoever that they do, whether evils or falses, from the sense of the letter. A faith of the sense of the letter alone is a persuasive faith, which is of no avail; for [the dragons] pervert all things of the letter as they please, and they are, also, worldly and corporeal.
5084. Tales qui non curant aliquam doctrinam, ideo, possunt omnia quaecunque faciunt ex sensu literae confirmare, tam mala quam falsa, fides solius sensus literae est fides persuasiva, quae ad nihil conducit, pervertunt enim ad libitum omnia, et sunt illi quoque mundani et corporei.
