781. "The New Heaven" and "the New Earth" and "the New Jerusalem Coming Down from Heaven" in the Book of Revelation Mean This [Second Coming of the Lord]
In the Book of Revelation we read:
I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the former heaven and the former earth had passed away. And I, John, saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. (Revelation 21:1-2)
We read something similar in Isaiah:
Behold, I am creating a new heaven and a new earth. Be glad and rejoice forever. Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a rejoicing and its people a joy. (Isaiah 65:17-18)
As I have shown earlier in this chapter [773], the Lord is at this time forming a new heaven. It consists of Christians who did acknowledge while they were in the world, and Christians who were able to acknowledge after they left the world, that the Lord is the God of heaven and earth, as he himself says in Matthew 28:18.
781. IX. This is the meaning of the new heaven and the new earth, and of the New Jerusalem coming down from there, as described in Revelation.
We read in Revelation:
I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the former heaven and the former earth had passed away. And I, John, saw the Holy City New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, Revelation 21:1-2.
We find something similar written in Isaiah:
Behold, I create a new heaven and a new earth. Rejoice and exult for ever. And behold, I shall make Jerusalem an exultation, and its people happiness, Isaiah 65:17-18.
I revealed above in this chapter that a new heaven is at the present time being formed by the Lord from Christians who have acknowledged in the world, or after leaving the world have been able to acknowledge, that the Lord is the God of heaven and earth, as He said in Matthew 28:18.
781. IX. THIS IS WHAT IS MEANT IN THE APOCALYPSE BY "THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH," AND "THE NEW JERUSALEM" DESCENDING THEREFROM.
We read in the Apocalypse:
I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away. And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband (Revelation 21:1-2).
Something like this is also written in Isaiah:
Behold, I create a new heaven and a new earth; be ye glad and rejoice forever; and behold, I will create Jerusalem a rejoicing and her people a joy (Revelation 65:17-18).
It has been made known previously in this chapter that the Lord is at this day forming a new heaven from such Christians as acknowledged in the world, or after their departure from the world were able to acknowledge, that He is the God of heaven and earth, according to His words in Matthew (28:18).
781. IX. THIS [THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE NEW CHURCH] IS MEANT IN THE REVELATION BY THE NEW HEAVEN AND THE NEW EARTH, AND THE NEW JERUSALEM DESCENDING THEREFROM.
It is written in the Revelation,
"I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away... And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband" Revelation 21:1-2.
It is also written in Isaiah,
"Behold, I create a new heaven (A.V., new heavens), and a new earth... Be ye glad and rejoice for ever... for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy" Isaiah 65:17-18.
It has already been shown in this chapter that a new heaven is at this day being formed by the Lord from those Christians who acknowledged Him in the world, and who could, after their departure from it, acknowledge Him to be the God of heaven and earth, according to His words in Matthew 28:18.
Et ego Johannes vidi Urbem Sanctam Hierosolymam novam descendentem a Deo e Coelo, paratam sicut Sponsam ornatam Marito suo, Cap. 21:1-2.
