  431.“好像预备出战的马一样”表因为他们能推理,所以他们在自己看来就像是通过对来自圣言的真理的理解来作战。“马”表示对圣言的理解(298节);“出战”表示属灵的战争,这种战争在于推理和论证(500586节);“好像”或“相似”表示表现,如前所述(430节)。

431. Were like horses prepared for battle. This symbolically means that because of their ability to reason, they appeared to themselves to be battling from an understanding of truth founded on the Word.

A horse symbolizes an understanding of the Word (no. 298). The battle symbolizes a spiritual battle, which is waged by reasonings and argumentation (no. 500, 586). Their being like them or likenesses of them signifies their appearance, as in no. 430 just above.

431. 'Like horses prepared for war' signifies that because they are able to reason they appeared to themselves as if fighting by virtue of an understanding of truth out of the Word. By 'a horse' is signified the understanding of the Word (298); by 'war' is signified spiritual war, which takes place by means of reasonings and arguments (500, 586); by 'like' or likenesses are signified appearances, as just above (430).

431. Were like unto horses prepared for war, signifies that because they can reason, they appear to themselves as if combating from the understanding of truth from the Word. By "a horse" is signified the understanding of the Word, (298); by "war" is signified spiritual war, which consists in reasonings and arguments, (500, 586); by "like," or similitudes, are signified appearances, as above, (430).

431. "Similes equis paratis ad bellum," significat quod quia ratiocinari possunt, apparerent sibi sicut pugnantes ex intellectu veri ex Verbo. - Per "equum" significatur intellectus Verbi (298) per "bellum" significatur bellum spirituale, quod fit per ratiocinationes et argumentationes (500, 586); per "similes" seu similitudines significantur differentiae, ut mox supra (430).
