518. The second woe is past. Behold, the third woe is coming quickly. (11:14) This symbolizes a lamentation over the corrupted state of the church, and lastly a final lamentation, as depicted after this.
That a woe symbolizes a lamentation over the corrupted state of the church may be seen in no. 416 above. The third woe symbolizes the final lamentation when a culmination and end has been reached, for three and likewise a third have this symbolic meaning (no. 505). To come quickly means, symbolically, after this, and after this means from chapter 11of chapter 16, and lastly chapter 20, where the last judgment on these people is described.
518. [verse 14] 'The second woe is past, behold the third woe is coming quickly' signifies lamentation over the perverted state of the Church, and finally the last lamentation, of which hereafter. That 'woe' signifies lamentation over the perverted state of the Church may be seen above (416); by 'the third woe' is signified the last lamentation when [the perversion] is complete and it is the end, for 'three' and 'a third' signify those things (505). 'To come quickly' signifies hereafter, and 'hereafter' is from chapters 12 to 17 following, and finally chapter 20, where it treats of the last judgment upon them.
518. Verse 14. The second woe is past; behold, the third woe cometh quickly, signifies lamentation over the perverted state of the church, and then the last lamentation, to be treated of presently. That "woe" signifies lamentation over the perverted state of the church, may be seen above, (416); by "the third woe" is signified the last lamentation, when it is complete and there is an end; for "three" and "a third" have that signification, (505). "To come quickly" signifies hereafter, and "hereafter" means from chapter 12-17, and, lastly, chapter 20, where it treats of the Last Judgment upon them.
518. (Vers. 14.)
