58. "And am He who lives." (1:18) This symbolically means, who alone is life, and the only source of life.
In the Word of the Old Testament, Jehovah calls Himself living and one who lives, because He alone has life; for He is love itself and wisdom itself, and these constitute life.
That there is only one life, namely God, and that angels and people are recipients of life from Him, is something we showed many times in Angelic Wisdom Regarding Divine Love and Wisdom.
Jehovah calls Himself living and one who lives in Isaiah 38:18-19, Ezekiel 5:11.
The Lord is life also in respect to His Divine humanity, because the Father and He are one. Therefore He says,
...as the Father has life in Himself, so He has given the Son to have life in Himself... (John 5:26)
Jesus said..., "I am the resurrection and the life." (John 11:25)
Jesus said..., "I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)
In the beginning was the Word..., and God was the Word... In Him was life... And the Word became flesh... (John 1:1-4, 14)
Because the Lord alone is life, it follows that He is the only source of life. Therefore He says, Because I live, you will live also. (John 14:19)
58. [verse 18] 'And I am the Living One' signifies Who Only is Life, and from Whom Only Life is. Jehovah in the Word of the Old Testament calls Himself Alive and Living, because He Only lives; for He is Love Itself and Wisdom Itself, and these are Life. That there is one Life only, which is God, and that angels and men are recipients of life from Him, has been abundantly shown in ANGELIC WISDOM CONCERNING DIVINE LOVE AND WISDOM. Jehovah calls Himself Alive and Living (Isaiah 38:18-19; Jeremiah 5:2; 12:16; 16:14-15; 23:7-8; 46:18; Ezekiel 5:11). The Lord is Life even as to the Divine Human, because the Father and He are One. Therefore He says:
In what manner the Father has Life in Himself, so has He given to the Son to have Life in Himself. John 5:26.
Jesus said, I am the Resurrection and the Life. John 11:25.
Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth (veritas) and the Life. John 14:6.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God; in Him was Life: and the Word was made flesh. John 1:1-4, 14.
Because the Lord is the Only Life, it follows that from Him Only there is life, and He therefore says:
Because I live, you shall live also. John 14:19.
58. Verse 18. And am He that liveth, signifies who alone is life, and from whom alone life is. Jehovah Se vocat Vivum et Viventem, (Esaias 38:18-19; Jeremias 5:2; 12:16; 16:14-15; 23:7-8; 46:18; Ezechiel 5:11).
Dominus etiam quoad Divinum Humanum est Vita, quia Pater et Ipse unum sunt; quare dicit:
"Quemadmodum Pater habet Vitam in Se Ipso, ita dedit Filio Vitam habet in Se Ipso," (Johannes 5:26);
Jesus dixit, "Ego sum Resurrectio et Vita," (Johannes 11:25);
Jesus dixit, "Ego sum Via, Veritas et Vita," (Johannes 14:6);
"In Principio erat Verbum, et Deus erat Verbum; in Ipso Vita erat et Verbum Caro factum est," (Johannes 1:1-4, 14);
Quia Dominus est Solus Vita, sequitur quod ab Ipso Solo sit vita; quare dicit,
"Quia Ego Vivo, etiam vos vivetis," (Johannes 14:19).
