十六、天堂的四个方位



  141、天堂和尘世都有东、南、西、北四个方位,都取决于各自的太阳:在天堂,取决于天堂的太阳也就是主;在尘世,取决于尘世的太阳。然而,它们之间有着很大的区别。首先,在尘世,被称为南方的地方是太阳在地球上方最高点的地方,北方则是太阳在地球下与之相反的位置;东方是春分或秋分时日出的地方,西方则是此时日落的地方。因此,在尘世,四个方位都是由南方来决定。{注1}然而在天堂,东方是天使看见显为太阳的主所在地方,西方与之相对,南方在右,北方在左,无论天使的脸和身体朝哪个方向转动,都是如此。因此,在天堂,所有的方位都是由东方来决定的。主看起来是一轮太阳,其所在的地方被称为“东方”(oriens),因为显为太阳的祂是一切生命的源头(origo)。此外,只要天使从主那里接受热和光或爱和聪明,就说主在他们当中“升起”(exoriri)。出于同样的原因,主在圣经中被称为“东方”(oriens)。{注2}

141. The Four Quarters in Heaven

There are four quarters in heaven just as there are in the world - east, south, west, and north. These are determined in each world by its sun, in heaven by heaven's sun, which is the Lord, and on earth by earth's sun. However, there are major differences. The first is that in our world we call "south" the direction in which the sun reaches its greatest height above the earth, and "north" where it is below the earth, in the opposite direction. East is where the sun rises at the equinoxes, and west is where it sets at that time. So on earth, all the directions are determined on the basis of the south. In heaven, though, they call "east" where the Lord is seen as the sun. West is in the opposite direction, south in heaven on the right, and north on the left. This holds true wherever people turn their faces and their bodies. So in heaven, all the directions are determined on the basis of the east.

The reason they give the name "east" to the direction in which the Lord is seen as the sun is that the whole source of life is from him as the sun. Further, to the extent that warmth and light, or intelligence and wisdom from him, are accepted among angels, they say that the Lord has risen among them. This is also why the Lord is called the east in the Word. 1

Both in heaven and in the world there are four quarters, east, south, west and north, determined in each world by its own sun, in heaven by the Sun of heaven which is the Lord, in the world by the sun of the world. Yet there are great differences between them; FIRST, that in the world, the south is said to be where the sun is in its greatest altitude above the earth, the north where it is in its opposite position beneath the earth, the east where it rises at the equinox, and the west where it then sets. Thus, in the world it is from the south that all the quarters are determined. In heaven, however, the quarter where the Lord appears as a Sun is said to be the east. Opposite to this is the west, on the right in heaven is the south and on the left there the north, and this in every turning of face and body. Thus, in heaven it is from the east that all the quarters are determined. It is said to be the east (oriens) where the Lord is seen as a Sun, because all origin (origo) of life is from Him as a Sun. Moreover, so far as angels receive heat and light or love and intelligence from Him, the Lord is said to arise (exoriri) upon them. For the same reason, in the Word the Lord is said to be the East 1(Oriens).
