Heaven and Hell #265 (NCE, 2000)

265. The Wisdom of Heaven's Angels

The nature of the wisdom of heaven's angels is almost beyond comprehension because it so transcends human wisdom that there are no means of comparison, and anything transcendent seems to be nothing at all. Still, there are a few overlooked means that can be used for description, means which until they are recognized seem like shadows in the mind and actually obscure the nature of the matter as it is in itself. Yet they are the kinds of things that can be known, and can be understood once they are known, if only the mind takes delight in them; for since delight arises from love, it has a light with it; and for people who love matters of divine and heavenly wisdom, that light radiates from heaven and provides them with enlightenment.

Heaven and Hell #265 (Harley, 1958)

265. THE WISDOM OF THE ANGELS OF HEAVEN

The nature of angelic wisdom can scarcely be comprehended, because it too greatly transcends human wisdom to be compared with it; and whatever is thus transcendent does not seem to be anything. Moreover, some truths that must enter into the description of it are as yet unrecognized, and until these are recognized they exist in the understanding as shadows, and thus hide the thing as it is in itself. Nevertheless, they are such truths as can be known, and when known be comprehended, provided the mind (mens) takes delight in them. For delight has light with it because it is from love; and upon those who love the things pertaining to Divine and heavenly wisdom, light shines forth from heaven and there is enlightenment.

Heaven and Hell #265 (Ager, 1900)

265. THE WISDOM OF THE ANGELS OF HEAVEN.

The nature of angelic wisdom can scarcely be comprehended, because it so greatly transcends human wisdom that the two cannot be compared; and whatever is thus transcendent does not seem to be any thing. Moreover, some truths that must enter into a description of it are as yet unknown, and until these become known they exist in the mind as shadows, and thus hide the thing as it is in itself. Nevertheless, these truths can be known, and when known be comprehended, provided the mind takes any interest in them; for interest carries light with it because it is from love; and upon those who love the things pertaining to Divine and heavenly wisdom light shines forth from heaven and gives enlightenment.

De Coelo et de Inferno #265 (original Latin)

265. [XXX.]
