《天堂与地狱》 第54节

54、在任何意义上都不能说天堂在任何人之外。天堂在人里面,因为每位天使都照着他里面的天堂而接受外面的天堂。事实上,除非天堂在人里面,否则外面的天堂不能流入并被接受丝毫。{注1}这清楚地表明,以下的认识是何等的错误:进入天堂只是简单地被带到天使当中、而不论他内在的生命如何;天堂是凭着直接的怜悯{注2}而被恩赐给每个人的。{注3}许多灵人有这种错误观念,因着这样的信仰,他们被提入天堂。然而,因他们的内在生命与天使的生命完全相反,以至于他们一到那里,其理智官能就开始变得盲目,直到他们变得像傻瓜一样;而他们的意志官能开始备受折磨,直到他们变得像疯子。总之,那些生活败坏的人进入天堂后喘不过气来,翻滚扭曲,如同出水进入空气的鱼,又像动物在抽干了空气的真空中。{注4}由此可见,天堂不在人的外面,而是在人里面。{注5}

54. 我們斷不能說天國在人之外。天國在人裡面, 因為天人都是照內在的天國接收外在的天國。由此可見, 以為進天國就是純粹在於主的憐憫而被帶入天人當中, 與人的內在生命無關, 那是大錯特錯了。恰恰相反, 除非天國在人裡面, 外在的天國就沒有任何元素流入並被接收。

有一些靈持有上述觀念, 為此, 他們被帶到天國。由於他們的內在生命與天人的生命全然對立, 以致剛剛到達, 其知性就開始變得昏昧, 乃至呆頭呆腦, 其意志也受到折磨, 仿佛癲狂了一般。簡而言之, 生活敗壞的人進入天國, 就像魚兒離開了水, 必要遭受痛苦。由此可見, 天國在內不在外。

54. It can never be said that heaven is outside anyone. It is within; because every angel accepts the heaven that is outside in keeping with the heaven that is within. We can see, then, how mistaken people are who think that getting into heaven is simply a matter of being taken up among the angels, regardless of the quality of their inner life, who believe that heaven is granted merely because of [the Lord's] mercy. 1On the contrary, unless heaven is within an individual, nothing of the heaven that is outside flows in and is accepted.

There are many spirits who hold this opinion and who, because of their faith, have been taken up into heaven. However, once they arrived, because their inner life was contrary to the life angels are engaged in, they began to be blinded in their understanding to the point that they became virtually idiotic, while in regard to their self-control they began to be so tormented that they carried on like people gone mad. In short, people who have lived evil lives and who arrive in heaven bring their souls with them and are tormented like fish out of water, in the air, or like animals in the vacuum in air pumps once the air has been pumped out. It stands to reason, then, that heaven is within us and not outside. 2

1. Heaven is not granted out of sheer mercy, but according to our life; and every trace of the life through which we are led into heaven by the Lord is from mercy, which is what "mercy" means: 5057, 10659. If heaven were given by sheer mercy, it would be given to everyone: 2401. 54. It can in no case be said that heaven is outside anyone; it is within him. For it is in accordance with the heaven that is within him that every angel receives the heaven that is outside him. This makes clear how greatly deceived is he who believes that to come into heaven is simply to be taken up among angels, whatever he may be as to his interior life, thus that heaven is granted to each one by immediate (immediata) mercy, when in fact, unless heaven is within anyone, nothing of the heaven that is outside inflows and is received. There are many spirits who are of this opinion. Because of this belief they were taken up into heaven; but their interior life being contrary to the life in which angels are, they began to be blinded as to their intellectual faculties when they came there, until they became like fools, and they began to be tortured in their voluntary faculties until they behaved like madmen. In a word, those who live wickedly and come into heaven gasp for breath and writhe about just like fish out of water in the air, or like animals in the ether in an air-pump when the air has been exhausted. From this it can be confirmed that heaven is within and not outside anyone. 1
