339. I mentioned earlier that children have either a heavenly or a spiritual nature. You can tell the ones of a heavenly nature from the ones of a spiritual nature very clearly. The former think and talk and act more gently, so that hardly anything is perceptible but something flowing from a love of what is good, a love for the Lord and for other children. The latter do not think and talk and act so gently. Instead, there is something like fluttering wings that shows in them in small ways. Then too, it can be seen in their annoyance, as well as in other things.
------------
339. It has been said above that little children are of a genius either celestial or spiritual. Those of a celestial genius are easily distinguished from those of a spiritual genius. The former think, speak and act so gently that hardly anything appears except what flows from a love of good to the Lord and towards other little children. But those of a spiritual genius are not so gentle; but in everything with them there appears a sort of vibration, as of wings. This is evident from their indignation and from other things.
